A composite useful in thermal energy storage, said composite being formed of a polyethylene matrix having a straight chain alkyl hydrocarbon incorporated therein, said polyethylene being crosslinked to such a degree that said polyethylenematrix is form stable and said polyethylene matrix is capable of absorbing at least 10% by weight of said straight chain alkyl hydrocarbon; the composite is useful in forming pellets or sheets having thermal energy storage characteristics.
Abstract:
A spun or drawn glass fiber for use in the area of medical implants, and particularly as a reinforcement for bioabsorbable polymeric orthopedic and dental implants. The glass fiber is bioabsorbable and has sufficient tensile strength and elasticity to be used as a reinforcement. It is made up of 5-50% calcium oxide (CaO), 50-95% phosphorous pentoxide (P2O5), 0-5% calcium fluoride (CaF2), 0-5% water (H2O), and 0-10% XO wherein X is either a single magnesium, zinc or strontium ion or two sodium, potassium, lithium, or aluminum ions and when X is aluminum the O represents three oxygen ions.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing optical processing on optical information corresponding to a subject (66) combines known optical processing techniques with holography. A reverse ray-trace holographic system is provided so that the image reconstruction beam (90) passes through the optical system in a direction exactly opposite to that travelled by the subject beam (50) during recording of the hologram (88). Aberrations introduced by the system optics are then completely compensated for, allowing use of lower aquality optical components. A single large-aperture lens (68) is used to define a Fourier transform of the optical subject information as the hologram (88) is recorded or the image reconstructed, and the subject information is manipulated within the Fourier transform plane (91).
