    Abstract: PURPOSE: A liquid crystal image displaying apparatus is provided to prevent light emitting efficiency from being prevented using a rare gas fluorescent lamp as the light source of a backlight unit. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal panel includes a pixel group which is capable of converting an optical shielding state and an optical transmitting state. A backlight unit is arranged on the rear side of the liquid crystal panel. Light source includes a pair of external electrodes(14) and three rear gas fluorescent lamps(1,2,3). Driving circuits(71, 72, 73) is in connection with the rear gas fluorescent lamps. Pixels display images using a field sequential mode.
