Abstract:
A coated article which includes a cement fiberboard substrate and a radiation- curable nonaqueous coating system applied to the substrate. The coating system includes one or more olefinic compounds and one or more non-olefinic resins which are soluble or dispersible in the one or more olefinic compounds. The non-olefinic resins may be chlorinated or non-chlorinated.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a water-based coating system that can be used to form durable, abrasion resistant, corrosion resistant, protective barriers on a wide range of substrates. The coating system is particularly effective for protecting metal-containing substrates, such as intermodal cargo containers, against corrosion. As an overview, the present invention provides water-based primer compositions suitable to form primer coats and topcoats on substrates. Desirably, the primer incorporates one or more chlorinated resins for excellent corrosion protection. These polymers not only provide excellent corrosion protection and but also show excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrate materials. The system also includes topcoat compositions enhance compatibility and adhesion to the primer and to provide enhanced application.
Abstract:
A substrate may be coated with a various combinations of a water-dispersible polyisocyanate, a water-soluble acid or salt thereof, and/or an isocyanate-reactive compound. The resulting coated article has improved coating adhesion, especially near coated burnished surfaces such as sawn edges or grooves.
Abstract:
This invention provides a polymer, which is preferably a polyether polymer, for use in coating compositions. Containers comprising the polymer and methods of making such containers are also provided. The invention further provides powder coating compositions including the polymer, which have utility in a variety of coating end uses, including, for example, valve and pipe coatings.

Abstract:
Dental materials may be made from polyhydric phenols that are non-genotoxic and exhibit estrogenic activity less than that of bisphenol S, while exhibiting properties such as strength and flexibility comparable to those of conventional BPA-derived dental materials.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a water-based coating system that can be used to form a durable, abrasion resistant, tough, protective coating on a wide range of substrates. The coating system advantageously has excellent adhesion properties and can be directly coated onto stainless steel surfaces without requiring an intervening primer layer. Primer layers or other types of coatings can be used in combination with the coating system of the present invention if desired, however. The coating system is particularly effective for protecting metal-containing substrates such as intermodal, refrigerated cargo containers. The resultant coatings are flexible and impact resistant. Being water-based, the coating compositions have lower VOC emissions and less residual odor than solvent-based compositions.
Abstract:
A polymer useful in coating compositions is described. The polymer is preferably an unsaturated polyurethane polymer, which preferably has an iodine value of at least 10. The polymer may be combined with one or more liquid carriers to form a liquid coating composition useful in coating a variety of substrates, including planar metal substrates.
Abstract:
The present invention provides acidic compositions and methods that are adapted to impart color to cementitious or mineral substrate surfaces. Specifically, the present invention relates to acidic compositions and methods adapted to treat cementitious or mineral substrate surfaces that have the advantage of using a less corrosive acid-based solution. The acidic composition incorporates species including a weak base in equilibrium with a conjugate acid. The presence of such species moderates the corrosive behavior of the acid while still allowing excellent coloring action to occur.
