    Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to a method (100) for reducing high torque levels and/or high rates of change of torque in a wind turbine generator (10) that comprises a machine-side converter (28) and a line-side converter (30) connected by a DC link (32), and, wherein the line-side converter (30) is operated according to a virtual synchronous machine control scheme. The method (100) comprises: determining (102) a generator torque (Tref); determining (104) a torque surplus (Tsurplus) indicating the amount that the generator torque (Tref) exceeds a torque limit; determining (106) an active power surplus (Psurplus) corresponding to the torque surplus (Tsurplus); controlling (108) the line-side converter (30) according to the virtual synchronous machine control scheme using an input parameter configured to reduce the active power output of the line side converter (30) by the active power surplus (Psurplus).

    Abstract: A system for a wind turbine, comprising a generator (28) connected to a power converter (30) by an electrical connection (32), a circuit breaker system (69) controlling the connection between the generator and the power converter through the electrical connection, and a sensor system (66) configured to sense operational parameters, wherein the generator is a permanent magnet generator. The system further comprises a protection system (61) interfaced to the circuit breaker system and the sensing system. The protection system is configured to determine an operational mode of the wind turbine (102) by monitoring at least two parameters of: the speed of the generator, the operational status of the power converter, and the operational status of the circuit breaker system, and defining an operational mode based on the monitored parameters, determine a parameter set comprising a plurality of operational parameters (104) based on the determined operational mode, and an associated set of expected values corresponding to the parameter set, wherein the determined parameter set includes generator voltage and generator speed, determine actual values corresponding to the determined parameter set (108), identify a fault condition in the event that the determined set of actual values of the operational parameters do not correspond to the determined set of expected values of the operational parameters, and implement a protection action based on the identified fault condition.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of controlling a doubly fed induction generator wind turbine converter system in case of a sub-synchronous resonance event, the method comprising the steps of detecting the sub-synchronous resonance event, and switching from a first control mode to a second control mode in response to detecting the predetermined event, wherein the second control mode comprises the step of setting at least one rotor current controller parameter on the basis of a generator speed of the doubly fed induction generator. The predetermined event may also be a fault ride through event. The present invention further relates to a doubly fed induction generator wind turbine converter system being capable of handling such events.
