The system includes an array of printheads, a support member positioned to be parallel to a plane formed by the array of printheads, a member movably mounted to the support member, an actuator operatively connected to the movably mounted member, an object holder configured to mount to the movably mounted member, and a controller operatively connected to the plurality of printheads and the actuator. The controller is configured to operate the actuator to move the object holder past the array of printheads and to operate the plurality of printheads to eject marking material onto objects held by the object holder as the object holder passes the array of printheads. The support member and printhead array are oriented vertically to enable the printing system to be installed in a vertical cabinet that provides a small footprint in a non- production environment.

    Abstract: An electronic filing system is enabled by highlighting handle information on an original document with a fluorescent marking material, and then scanning the document with an illumination source in a single pass. The reflectivity of the highlighted area is greater than the perceived reflection of the remainder of the document being scanned, and this difference in spectral reflectance is used in conjunction with a bi-level threshold sensing device to generate two output signals, one containing the document information, and the other containing only the handle information. Both signals are stored as digital information in system memory; the document is then retrieved by addressing only the handle signal.

    Abstract: An automated process and apparatus is provided for establishing the basic xerographic operating parameters for an electrophotographic printing machine. The document scanning means is used in a setup mode to generate test patches of varying density on the machine photoreceptor. The levels are measured and compared to present values stored in a digital controller memory until convergnce is obtained along three separate points on the PIDC curve. The controller adjusts the system parameters of charge circuit, developer bias and system exposure in an iterative process and corresponding to the photo-induced discharge curve for the particular machine.
