Abstract: Apparatus for producing facsimile copies having high resolution and uniformity from electrostatically charged latent images on a dielectric support member in which a quantity of developer material comprising a uniformly dispersed toner material is transported into transfer relation with the dielectric support member having the latent electrostatic images thereon. The developer material which includes a magnetically attractable carrier material is supported on the applicator member by means of an attractive force generated by a suitable magnetic field. The toner is maintained at a uniformly dispersed concentration in the developer material by means of concentrically arranged screw conveyor members which provide a continuously recirculated supply of developer material in position to be attracted to the cylindrical applicator member.

Abstract: A sheet registration device for use in printing machines wherein the device is in the form of a plurality of rotating fingers which are arranged to register sheets on the fly as they move along a path of conveyance. Sheets are brought into contact with the moving fingers at a greater speed than the speed of movement of the fingers which are moving at a required print processing speed. A first conveyor introduces each sheet to the registration fingers at the greater speed and maintains this contact until the sheet is registered and further advanced by a second conveying device.

Abstract: Apparatus suitable for conveying sheets of various dimensions past a scanning station in a facsimile transceiver in which a longitudinally extending bar is resiliently biassed radially inwardly of a rotatable drum member to a normal position engaging the leading edge of a sheet between a projecting lip on the bar and a portion of the drum periphery. A resiliently biassed wiper bar extending longitudinally along the drum periphery holds a sheet tautly against the drum periphery at the scanning station as the drum is rotated. An access door over the drum when opened beyond a predetermined position permits attachment or removal of a sheet from the drum by pivoting a cam to engage the bar member as the drum is rotated to a predetermined position of rotation.

Abstract: Apparatus for regulating the magnification ratio between a copy produced by an electrostatic reproduction machine and the original document from which the copy is produced is provided in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. Movable lens means projects a light image of the original document onto a moving photoreceptor disposed in an image plane, said lens means being movable along a rectilinear path to determine a magnification ratio in accordance with the relative position of said lens means with respect to said original document and said photoreceptor. Manually operable selecting means produce electrical representations of selected magnification ratios. Positioning means responds to the produced electrical representations to position the lens means at a selected location along the rectilinear path to thereby establish the selected magnification ratio. In one embodiment of the instant invention, the copy of the original document is produced by flashing a pulsed light image of the original onto the photoreceptor. Flash control means applies a flash energizing pulse to illumination means for the generation of the light pulse in timed relation with the movement of the photoreceptor. The flash control means is responsive to a preselected one of the selected magnification ratios for delaying the application of the flash energizing pulse to the illumination means for a predetermined interval of time.

Abstract: A sheet buffering system for use in a copier or printer producing a sequential stream of sheets with limited time therebetween, and with compiling and finishing of those output sheets on-line while subsequent sheets are being printed, a non-slip sheet feeder (16a,95) normally feeding copy sheets downstream to the compiler is selectably intermittently temporarily stopped holding the lead edge area of the first copy sheet (18) for the next set to be finished so that continued feeding of the trail end of the same sheet by a relatively closely spaced upstream feeder(22a) buckles that sheet into a buckle chamber (30) assisted by a buckle inducing arcuate baffle (13a,14a,14b) extending from the other side of the sheet path. The next printed sheet is fed normally while the buckled first sheet (18) is positively held out of its way. When the second sheet (20) reaches the downstream feeder (16a), it restarts to positively feed both sheets downstream to the compiler, together, but overlapped by a preset amount for registration stacking. A substantial increase is provided in the time for the preceding copy sheets to be operated on in the compiler. A plural sheet collection point may also be provided by this sheet buffering system.
