Abstract: A sheet registration system, especially for printers, with a lower cost a nd lower mass-movement system for both sheet deskewing and transverse registration repositioning of the sheets in the same integral system, especially for higher speed printing. Only one main drive motor can drive both of the two spaced apart sheet feeding nips, together with a much lower power, and lower cost, deskewing differential drive system for providing the relative differential angular movement of the two spaced sheet feeding nips to achieve the desired amount of sheet deskewing movement, without interrupting the forward feeding movement of the sheet. Also disclosed are extensive further reductions in th e component mass of the lateral translation movement for lateral sheet registration.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet positioning system, in particular, for a printer having an inexpensive system of small mass movement, in particular, for a high-speed printer, capable of performing both of the skew correcting operation for the sheet and the repositioning operation for side positioning the sheet in the same integral system.
SOLUTION: Both of two nips 17A, 17B mounted at an interval for feeding a sheet can be driven only by one main driving motor M1, two sheet feeding nips mounted at an interval are moved with relative difference in angle inexpensively with very small power, and the skew correction is performed in a differential driving system to realize the skew correction movement of the desired amount of sheets. The mass of elements moving in parallel in the lateral direction is reduced over a wide range for lateral sheet positioning.
