Abstract: Aromatic aldehydes are produced by catalytic formylation of aryl chlorides in the presence of a palladium chelating phosphine ligand complex of the formula (R₁R₂P(CH₂) n PR₃R₄)Pd, wherein n is 3 or 4 and R₁ to R₄ are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, at least one of them being alkyl or cycloalkyl.
