Abstract: 1,185,133. Linkwork. CARL ZEISS JENA VEB. 29 Nov., 1968, No. 56753/68. Heading F2K. [Also in Division G1] A pointer or pen 11 of a measuring instrument is moved by opposed cables 1, 2 connected at their other ends to a drive member 3, each cable passing round at least one tensioning and guiding pulley 7, 9 mounted on a lever 15, 16, the levers being coupled together by a connecting rod 21. To compensate for changes in cable length due to humidity or temperature changes or ageing, without affecting the pointer or pen setting, the coupling of the levers ensures that the magnitudes of the tensioning movements of pulleys 7, 9 are proportional to the lengths of the cables 1, 2 which they engage. The drive member 3 may be a rotatable pulley, as shown, or a linearly movable member. As shown, a tensioning spring 19 acts on the lever 15. The connecting rod 21 is pivoted to the levers 15, 16 at distances h 1 , h 2 from their respective fulcra 17, 18 such that the ratio h 1 : h 2 equals the ratio of the length of cable 2 to the length of cable 1. The pulleys 7, 9 are at equal distances from their lever fulcra 17, 19. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the connecting rod (41) is pivoted to the levers (33, 38) at equal distances from their fulcra (32, 37) and the distances of the pulleys (30, 31) from the fulcra (32, 37) of their respective levers are proportional to the lengths of the cables (25, 26) which they engage.
