Abstract:
The annular atomizer is for use in flame photometry. Sensitive adjustment of the atomizer is ensured by means of a capillary tube at any time. This tube is surrounded by at least one nozzle and for the purpose of adjustment is tiltable all round near the orifice of this nozzle. The tilting motion is imparted to the tube at its end remote from the nozzle orifice.

1,013,177. Monochromators. CARL ZEISS JENA. VEB. Sept. 10,1962, No. 34535/62. Heading G2J. To investigate manufacturing defects in offaxis aspherical mirrors, the entry and exit slits of a monochromator are disposed in the flame which passes through the mirror axis and is parallel to the refracting edge of the dispersing prism. As shown, a divergent ray 18 from an inlet slit 11 falls on a mirror 13, which is an off-axial section of a parabolic mirror, and if reflected as a parallel beam 19 to a dispersion prism 14 having a reflecting rear surface 15 so that the beam is reflected back to the mirror 13 from which it is reflected as a convergent beam to a plane mirror 16 and finally forms an image of the inlet slit 11 at the exit slit 12.

1,185,133. Linkwork. CARL ZEISS JENA VEB. 29 Nov., 1968, No. 56753/68. Heading F2K. [Also in Division G1] A pointer or pen 11 of a measuring instrument is moved by opposed cables 1, 2 connected at their other ends to a drive member 3, each cable passing round at least one tensioning and guiding pulley 7, 9 mounted on a lever 15, 16, the levers being coupled together by a connecting rod 21. To compensate for changes in cable length due to humidity or temperature changes or ageing, without affecting the pointer or pen setting, the coupling of the levers ensures that the magnitudes of the tensioning movements of pulleys 7, 9 are proportional to the lengths of the cables 1, 2 which they engage. The drive member 3 may be a rotatable pulley, as shown, or a linearly movable member. As shown, a tensioning spring 19 acts on the lever 15. The connecting rod 21 is pivoted to the levers 15, 16 at distances h 1 , h 2 from their respective fulcra 17, 18 such that the ratio h 1 : h 2 equals the ratio of the length of cable 2 to the length of cable 1. The pulleys 7, 9 are at equal distances from their lever fulcra 17, 19. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the connecting rod (41) is pivoted to the levers (33, 38) at equal distances from their fulcra (32, 37) and the distances of the pulleys (30, 31) from the fulcra (32, 37) of their respective levers are proportional to the lengths of the cables (25, 26) which they engage.

859,208. Spectrometers. ZEISS JENA, C. VEB. Sep. 25, 1957, No. 30109/57. Class 97(1) The spectrometer comprises two prisms 2, 3 fixed on a disc 1 which is rotatable through 180 degrees so that, when prism 2 acts as the dispersing element, the light is reflected from the silvered surface 4 thereof whereas, when disc 1 is rotated through 180 degrees so that prism 3 acts as the dispersing element, the light is again reflected from surface 4 of prism 2.
