Abstract: Naringenin 7-O-methyltransferase and a method for preparing Sakuranetin using a gene encoding the same enzyme are provided, thereby reducing the preparation costs of Sakuranetin by biological preparation, and improving disease tolerance of plants by inserting the Sakuranetin into the plants. The Naringenin 7-O-methyltransferase converts Naringenin into Sakuranetin having the amino acid sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:1. A gene encoding the Sakuranetin has the nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO:2, wherein the Naringenin 7-O-methyltransferase gene is isolated from bean Glycine max. The method for preparing Sakuranetin using a gene encoding the same enzyme comprises the steps of: constructing an expression vector containing the Naringenin 7-O-methyltransferase gene; transforming E. coli with the expression vector; and culturing the transformed E. coli.
