    Abstract: La presente invencion proporciona un aparato para controlar la pulverizacion de partículas de recubrimiento con carga positiva hacia un material dieléctrico puesta a tierra o con carga negativa que tiene una constante dieléctrica inferior a 4,0 y en forma de un recipiente hueco.     Abstract: An actuator (20) for electrically charging an aerosol spray has an inductor (34) located adjacent to the spray nozzle (18) to induce a charge on the atomized fluid. Charge to the inductor (34) is provided by a piezoelectric crystal (46) which is stressed by movement of an operating member (26) to open the spray valve (16). Inductor charging utilizes negligible electrical power so that additional power sources are not required. The crystal may be stressed continuously such as by squeezing, or intermittently, such as by striking. When an intermittent stressing is utilized, the electrical circuit includes a switch between the crystal and inductor which is opened as the valve is opened to isolate electrically the inductor during spraying.

The arrangement is suitable as a dairy sprayer to direct charged spray upwardly from said turned-back end on to the teats and udder of a dairy animal such as a cow, ewe or goat.

    Abstract: An adapter for converting spray guns to electrostatic or induction charging includes a housing (60) mountable on a spray gun (10). A high voltage power source (70) is contained in the housing (60) and is connected to an electrode assembly (120) mounted on the front of the housing (60). The electrode assembly (120) includes four electrodes (154, 156, 154', 156') which extend in front of the spray gun nozzle (27) and air cap (42) and are spaced symmetrically around the spray axis (158). The nozzle (27) is electrically grounded, while the electrodes (154, 156, 154', 156') carry a voltage in the range of 3-15kV, to produce in the spray path from the nozzle (27) an electrostatic field which produces electrical charges on the sprayed particles. When conductive liquids are sprayed, the particles are charged by induction at relatively low electrostatic field gradients, while nonconductive liquids require high electrostatic field gradients which produce corona effects. These corona effects are enhanced by the provision of a corona needle (190) mounted on the nozzle (27) at the spray axis (158).
