    Abstract: A method of making a linearity standard magnetic tape is disclosed which includes the steps of providing a rotary magnetic head (1 to 4) assembly including a pair of magnetic heads (HA, HB) having different azimuth gaps, respectively, and for recording slant tracks (1a, 1b) alternately on a magnetic tape (2), a circuit (6,8,10) for supplying a first pilot signal (f 2 , f 4 ) of low frequency and a linearity standard signal of high frequency (e. g. 1 MHz) to one of the magnetic heads (HB) and a circuit (5, 7, 9) for supplying a second pilot signal (f 1 , f 3 ) of a low frequency and a bias signal of higher frequency (e.g. 9 MHz) than that of the linearity standard signal to the other (HA) of the magnetic heads.

    Abstract: An auto tracking apparatus is arranged to divide a tracing time period of one field of a frame into a plurality of time domains and to sample and hold the envelope detection output signal of a reproduced high frequency signal at every time domain. This sample-and-hold operation is successively made for the following frame and each of the sampled values is compared with the previously value sampled at the corresponding time domain. In accordance with the results of the comparison the displacement of the reproducing heat is controlled at every sampling point so that a reproducing head can accurately scan the track along the center line thereof.

    Abstract: A recording apparatus for a video signal in which first and second heads (3, 4) for recording and reproducing are attached through electrostrictive elements to a rotary drum - (1) with an angular spacing of substantially 180° therebetween. When a video signal is recorded, a pilot signal recorded by the first head (3) over a predetermined interval is reproduced by the second head (4) while a pilot signal recorded by the second head (4) and spaced apart by a predetermined number of recording tracks is reproduced by the first head (3). Reproduced levels of the pilot signals are compared so as to control a drive voltage for the electrostrictive elements and thus to adjust a step difference between the first and second heads (3, 4) in the recording mode.

    Abstract: Apparatus is provided for recording on and reproducing from a magnetic recording tape a high speed video signal obtained from a high speed scanning video camera (1) having a scanning speed which is N times (N is an integer) the scanning speed of a standard video camera that generates a standard television video signal. The apparatus includes means for driving the magnetic recording tape to run at a tape speed which is N times that of a standard recording and reproducing apparatus, means (8 1 to S 10 ) for dividing the high speed video signal into N channel video signals, means for expanding a time axis of each of the N-channel video signals in the form of a time axis which is a little compressed with respect to that of the standard television video signal, means (MD-1 to MD-5) for modulating each of the time axis expanded video signals, and a recording and reproducing mechanism comprising a rotary drum having N rotary magnetic heads (H A to HE) mounted on the circumference thereof with an equal angular distance therebetween to record each of the modulated video signals on the magnetic recording tape as successive tracks and a playback head mounted on the circumference at a predetermined position, the diameter of the rotary drum being in a predetermined relationship to that of the standard magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus.

    Abstract: An automatic tracking apparatus for use in a video tape recorder including a magnetic head mounted on a piezo-electric element. The automatic tracking apparatus includes a driving pulse generator which generates a driving pulse signal causing the piezo-electric element to drive the magnetic head. The driving pulse signal has a waveform including a jumping portion causing the magnetic head to jump from one recording track to another recording track, which generates ringing vibrations in the piezo-electric element in a change-speed reproduction mode. An inflection point is imposed on the jumping portion of the driving pulse signal waveform. The position of the inflection point is determined in accordance with the amplitude level of the ringing vibrations so as to minimize the amplitude level of the ringing vibrations.

    Abstract: In a recording apparatus frequency modulators (25-28) a provided for modulating carriers having different frequencies with an information signal. The different frequency irriers are sequentially combined by a switch (12) and aplied to a recording head in response to the head being fifted from one track to the next to record each of the carriers a different track, so that there is a difference in frequency between carriers recorded on adjacent tracks. During play- back, the frequency-modulated carriers are sequentially produced and separated by band-pass filters (25-28) into individual carriers, frequency-demodulated respectively by (29-32) and sequentially combined by a switch 3) to form the original information signal. Tracking control (100) is provided to control the lateral position of the ansducer head in response to the carriers which are derived tracks on opposite sides of the track being scanned.
