Abstract: An ionization chamber for analyzing inhomogeneities in a radiated beam from a particle accelerator system has two measuring chambers formed by three mutually parallel walls spaced apart by spacer rings. Two of the three walls have single electrodes arranged thereon whereas a third wall has several mutually insulated electrodes applied on a measuring chamber side of the wall. The mutually insulated electrodes include a central circular electrode and a group of electrode segments arranged in circular fashion around the central electrode. Inhomogeneities in the radiation intensity of a beam being analyzed are detected by unequal currents in the central electrode relative to surrounding electrode segments or in the electrode segments themselves relative to each other.

Abstract: The device is able to detect the exceeding of a given threshold by a parameter, other than an electric voltage, capable of affecting the electrostatic force of attraction exerted between a charged electret and one, of two electrodes between which said electret is placed, said parameter being for instance an ionizing radiation. The two electrodes are at the same electric potential and the device also comprises return means for urging the first electrode and the electret permanently apart, and means for using the relative displacement of said elements, when it occurs, for desired detection purposes.

Abstract: An improved ionization chamber type x-ray detector comprises a heavy gas at high pressure disposed between an anode and a cathode. An open grid structure is disposed adjacent the anode and is maintained at a voltage intermediate between the cathode and anode potentials. The electric field which is produced by positive ions drifting toward the cathode is thus shielded from the anode. Current measuring circuits connected to the anode are, therefore, responsive only to electron current flow within the chamber and the recovery time of the chamber is shortened.

Abstract: An X-ray detector using a gas which is ionised by the radiation to be detected, has when viewed from the direction of the approaching radiation, a series of detection channels which can be monitored separately. Each detecting channel has >=2 detecting cells with a different filling of gas. Pref. when viewed in the direction of the radiation to be detected, the gas filled cells are next to each other, or alternatively they may be one behind the other. Pref. each cell comprises a cylindrical tube which acts as a cathode. and is closed at one end by a window transparent to X-rays. The tube may also have an axially extending wire forming an anode which may be attached to the window of the material of which is gastight, electrically-insulating and resistant to X-rays, e.g. synthetic material, a ceramic or a glass. The cell pref. contains Xe, Kr, Ar, Ne and/or He, to which a small amt. of a gas such as CO2 or H2 which can be regenerated, is esp. added. Use of two detector cells having measuring ranges between 106 and 108 and 108 and 1010 roentgen quanta per second, the output signals of the two cells being fed to a logic circuit where the output signal for the channel is formed, eliminates the prior need for a choice between a longer investigative period and low accuracy.
