    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prepare a polyester compsn. which enables the production of a film or fiber excellent in abrasion resistance, slipperiness, and windability by compounding a thermoplastic polyester with zirconium oxide particles having specified particle properties and inert inorg. particles each in a specified amt. CONSTITUTION:A thermoplastic polyester is compounded with 0.01-10wt.% zirconium oxide particles having a specific surface area by the B.E.T. method of 10m /g or higher and 0.01-10wt.% inert inorg. particles having a mean particle diameter of 0.01-5.0mum.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the subject composition comprising silica particles having a specific particle size and a specified thermoplastic polyester, having excellent sliding property abrasion resistance and affinity, and suitable for obtaining films or fibers. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition comprises (A) silica particles having a D1/D2 ratio of >=2 between a particle size (D1m#,) measured by a dynamic light scattering method and a particle size (D2mmu) measured by a nitrogen gas adsorption method, having the D1 of 60-600mmu, having a thickness of 41-100mmu on the observation using an electron microscope, and having a linear or branched shape, and (B) a thermoplastic polyester having 10-100 equivalents per 10 g of the polyester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition having small voids in molding into films and yarns, excellent slipperiness and shaving resistance, comprising particles subjected to surface treatment with a specific polyester and a thermoplastic polyester. CONSTITUTION:Particles subjected to surface treatment with a polyester which is a polyester comprising a dicarboxylic acid and a glycol component wherein >=60mol% total dicarboxylic acid components of the polyester segment are aromatic dicarboxylic acids and 10-40mol% total dicarboxylic acid components are dicarboxylic acids containing sulfonic acid or an alkali metal salt thereof and a glycol component is an aliphatic or alicyclic glycol, b are blended with a thermoplastic polyester. Calcium carbonate is preferably used as the particles which has preferably 0.1-3mum average particle diameter in the case of aiming a magnetic recording medium.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a polyester composition which can give a molding, such as a film or a fiber, possessing both easy slidability and abrasion resistance, by adding a specified amount of specified silicone rubber particles to a polyester. CONSTITUTION:Silicone rubber particles of a mean particle diameter of 0.01-5mum, having structural units of the formula (wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each methyl, ethyl or phenyl, and m:n=5:95-80:20) are prepared. In the production of a polyester (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate), the prepared particles are added to the reaction system to produce a polyester containing 0.005-15wt.% silicone rubber particles. The obtained polyester composition is melt-molded into a film, and this film is biaxially oriented and heat-set to produce a biaxially oriented polyester film excellent in lubricity and chipping resistance and suitable for, e.g., a magnetic tape.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film having pinhole-resistant characteristics which a biaxially oriented nylon film has and also having good moldability which a conventional biaxially oriented polyester film and the biaxially oriented nylon film have not. SOLUTION: This biaxially oriented polyester film comprises a resin component composed of (A) 55-95 wt.% resin having 240-265 deg.C melting point and comprising >=90 wt.% polyester component composed of ethylene terephthalate and/or ethylene naphthalate and (B) 5-45 wt.% resin having 185-235 deg.C melting point and comprising >=70 wt.% polyester component, and the polyester film has properties comprising (1) >=200 MPa loss modulus (E") at a peak temperature of β disperse and (2) >=140 MPa breaking strength of the film or (1') >=55% recovery factor of deformation of the film after 20% pulling at 0 deg.C and (2) >=140 MPa breaking strength of the film.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyester composition whereby the improvement in heat resistance of a polyester composition and the improvement in productivity accompanying to catalyst recovery can be achieved by removing a metal from the composition. SOLUTION: In a polyester production process containing an esterification step using an esterification catalyst and a polycondensation step using a polycondensation catalyst, a polyester composition is produced by separating and recovering the esterification catalyst and/or the polycondensation catalyst by adding a ligand, provided the ligand contains at least one kind of donor atom which can be coordinated with a metal or a metal ion and is selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, sulfur, and oxygen.
