    Abstract: A water filter cartridge has a cylindrical shell. A conduit runs between closing end walls and is disposed within a filtration material. There are additional openings in the respective end walls for communicating the flow of water through the material. A water filtration element of a porous medium is shaped to nest within a portion of the shell encircling a corresponding portion of the filtration material and defining space between the medium and the inner side wall of the shell with that space being in the water flow path from one of the end walls and the material through the medium. A reference color is exhibited over a portion of the exterior side wall of the shell adjacent to the location of the medium inside the shell, and the medium exhibits a given color upon beginning of usage but changes color with continued usage in response to its entrapment of matter in the water. The shell is transparent over the medium to enable the user to compare the medium color to the reference color. The filtration material is secured in place by a plug forming one of the end walls and which has an opening around its periphery with a water pervious ring being sandwiched between that peripheral opening and the space defined on the outside of the filtration medium.

    Abstract: The disposable filter unit according to the present invention comprises a filter fixing member 3 with a socket-type recess 7 into which the front side of a feed member 2 interspersed with a feed channel 4 is inserted sealingly. Between these two members, a filter element 12 is inserted, which filter element is supported by the ground 15 of the socket-type recess 7 inside the filter fixing member 3. The edges 13 and 16 of the feed member 2 and the filter fixing member 3 are knife-type cutting edges such that, when these two members are put together, the filter element 12 is cut to size from a sheet-type filter material. Furthermore, the invention relates to a method for manufacturing disposable filter units. This method is characterized by that several feed members and several filter fixing members are put together simultaneously, whereat the filter elements are simultaneously cut to size from a sheet-type filter material, for example from a leaf-type or a ribbon-type filter material.

    Abstract: A case mounting mechanism for use on a pneumatic device such as a filter, a lubricator, or the like includes a plurality of first ridges projecting inwardly from an edge of an annular groove defined in a body, each of the first ridges having a recess, and a plurality of second ridges projecting outwardly from a peripheral edge of a case guard and each having a projection. The case guard surrounding a case is mounted on the body by engagement between the first and second ridges with the projection on each second ridge engaging in the recess of each first ridge. The case is of a cylindrical shape having a ridge projecting axially outwardly from a terminal end thereof and defining a fluid passage therein. The case guard fitted over the cylindrical case has a hole defined in a terminal end thereof. The case and the case guard are combined together with the ridge on the terminal end of the case being fitted in the hole, and have peripheral edges detachably fitted in the annular groove of the body.

    Abstract: An apparatus for the treatment of water. A water filter is mated with a housing base and cover to form an integral unit to treat water. A valve connected to a water faucet diverts the flow of water from the tap through a filter inlet tube, through the filter and back to the valve via a filter discharge tube. A second position on the valve permits the water flow from the faucet to by-pass the treatment filter. The replaceable filter has indicator means to visually indicate whether or not satisfactory flow is being maintained through the unit and whether or not the filter should be changed.

    Abstract: A liquid-purifying system particularly for purifying the solvent used in a dry-cleaning machine comprises a combined filter and still. Filter cartridges are arranged in a closed vessel which also is provided with a heating coil for vaporizing liquid in the vessel. The level of liquid in the vessel is automatically controlled during distillation operation to provide a vapor space above the liquid. A condenser connected with the vapor space condenses the vapor produced by vaporization of the liquid and also separates any water that may be present.
