    Abstract: Fluid filtration systems that have openings in their sump closures are provided. Spouts for processed fluid may be added to direct flow of processed fluid. The spouts may be attached, permanently or removably, to the sump closures or to media cartridges. The system comprises: an inlet, an unprocessed fluid outlet, and a processed fluid outlet; a sump housing and a sump closure operatively associated therewith, the processed fluid outlet being located through the sump closure; a media cartridge located in the sump housing, the media cartridge providing processed fluid upon contact with unprocessed fluid; and a diverter. Flow of processed fluid may be directed through any desired angle when a rotatable structure is included in the system. Filtration systems may easily be cleaned and/or sanitized.

    Abstract: A valve assembly for a twin tank-type water treatment system includes and a tank selector valve assembly that includes first and second rotary selector valves driven in concert with another by a reversible electric motor. The motor drives the first and second selector valves between (a) a first position in which an untreated water inlet and a treated water outlet of the valve assembly are coupled to a first resin tank, and a second resin tank is connected to a regeneration valve, and (b) a second position which the untreated water inlet and the treated water outlet of the valve assembly are coupled to the second resin tank, and the first resin tank is connected to a regeneration valve. The rotary valves may be disks that rotate relatively rapidly on a common shaft driven by the electric motor through an arc of 180° or less.

    Abstract: A container (10) for water comprising: a container housing (11) for holding water, the housing having a base, side walls and a top wall; a water filter (19) comprising one or more membranes (22) which are effective to pass water in preference to air under the influence of a pressure differential; an output valve (20) coupled to the water filter (19); and, a pump (18) for establishing a pressure differential across the walls of the container housing, wherein the container housing comprises a main volume (MV) within which the water filter (19) extends and a header volume (HV) above the water filter. For a given internal capacity of a water container of the present invention, the provision of a header volume ensures that the surface area of the water filter in contact with water in the main volume is constant so long as there is water within the header volume. This keeps the membranes of the water filter working at maximum efficiency for longer than they would otherwise. In a preferred embodiment, the container has a capacity of between 1 and 6 litres, more preferably between and 6 litres. Preferably, the ratio of the header volume to the main volume is at least 1:6, more preferably at least 1:5.

    Abstract: A portable or personal water filtration apparatus comprising upstream and downstream removable reservoirs and a back-washable filter interposed therebetween. The back-washable filter comprises an upstream housing and a downstream housing, inside of which are fitted a membrane cartridge and a slidable plunger. The downstream housing is rotatable relative to the upstream housing between two or more positions, including, for example, an open flow position, a closed flow position, and a back-wash position. In the back-wash position, the downstream housing and plunger are axially extendable relative to the upstream housing and membrane cartridge in order to obtain a charge of clean water in the plunger that may then be forced backward through the filter by returning the plunger to its starting position. This dislodges accumulated debris from the membrane and reverses the slowing of flow observed through repeated use of the filter.

The discs are releasably held in their relative positions by at least one pawl and at least one of the discs is rotatable relative to the other disc. The regeneration frequency is determined by an initiation slot in one of the discs and its operative position is determined by disc positions. The regeneration control disc is rotated by a pawl mechanism that is activated when an associated cam follower is received by the regeneration initiation slot formed in the water meter usage assembly.

    Abstract: A device allows a liquid to flow between two open structures with different liquid surface elevations separated by a wall. The device has a conduit with an inlet on one side of the wall and an outlet on the other side of the wall separated by a high point above the expected liquid surface elevation. The conduit also has two valved openings, one connected to a source of suction that can evacuate air from the conduit and the other connected to a vent. In one example, the conduit is formed between a pair of spaced transverse walls attached to an arched cover. The transverse walls each have a slot allowing the device to be placed on top of a dividing wall between two tanks with surfaces of the dividing wall defining part of the conduit. In an example with multiple conduits, one or more interior walls are provided between a pair of end walls and a cover over the interior and end walls may be provided in segments. To initiate flow, a conduit is evacuated of sufficient air to allow a siphon to develop. To stop the flow, sufficient air is allowed to enter the conduit through the vent valve to break the siphon. To control the rate of flow in a device with multiple conduits, flow can be permitted in just some of the conduits. Flowrate through a conduit can also be varied by controlling the volume of air at the top of a conduit.
