Abstract:
An apparatus for the application of a protective coating to the welded or soldered seam of can bodies. Two driven rolls arranged in tandem or series apply a protective coating, typically in the form of a lacquer, to the seam of the cans or can bodies. One of the rolls covers the actual seam and the other roll covers the region neighboring the seam. Both effective regions of the rolls overlap laterally of the seam at critical locations where the protective coating is to be applied to the seams of the can.
Abstract:
A pipe interior surface coating device having a spray apparatus for distributing a coating material around an axis of rotation. A carriage supports the spray apparatus and is adapted to be moved longitudinally inside a pipe. A bracket may be used to position the spray apparatus at a chosen distance away from one end of the carriage and the carriage may include apparatus to position the axis of rotation of the spray means concentrically within the pipe.
Abstract:
A method of coating a pipeline comprising the steps of:Welding joints of pipe, end to end to form a continuous pipeline having an entry end and an exit end, winding said pipeline onto a reel, and coating the interior thereof by inserting a pig into the pipeline at one end thereof and affixing a cap at the other end thereof, introducing a coating liquid into the pipeline on the reel, and rotating the pipeline while the pig is maintained in a relatively static position so that the pig smoothly and evenly coats the pipeline as it rotates.
Abstract:
An inner burr cutting, inner face cleaning and inner face painting apparatus for long pressure-welded pipes of medium and small diameters comprises a carriage mounted on a base for reciprocal movement, a supporting tube mounted on the carriage to be inserted into a long pressure-welded pipe of a small or medium diameter, a hollow rotary shaft projecting from the supporting tube, an inner burr cutting device fixed to the rotary shaft, a mechanism for centering the inner burr cutting device in the pressure-welded pipe, a spatter crushing brush, an electromagnet device for attracting spatters and inner burr chips, a spattering prevention device, a paint spraying device disposed ahead of the electromagnet device, and a cooling device surrounding the pressure-welded pipe. After the inner and outer burrs have been removed, the cooling device, spatter crushing device, electromagnet device and paint spraying device are used to clean the inner face of the pressure-welded pipe and paint the portions of the inner face of the pressure-welded pipe from which the inner burrs are removed and which are burnt.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for dispensing a fluid in a conduit and more particularly for dispensing lubricant within an electrical conduit for facilitating pulling electrical cables through the conduit. The apparatus is in the form of a cartridge disposed in the conduit at an end thereof. The cartridge is made of a pair of sealed and separable members. One of the members is a flanged sleeve forming the casing of the cartridge, in which is coaxially disposed the separable member forming a tubular support member or carrier for a mass of resilient and absorbent lubricant impregnated porous material compressibly packed between the inner surface of the sleeve casing and the carrier. A cable pulling strand, or fishtape, is passed through the tubular carrier, and the cables to be pulled through the conduit are attached to the end of the fishtape. A plug inserted in the open end of the tubular carrier prevents the fishtape and the cables attached thereto from being pulled back through the carrier. The carrier separates from the sleeve casing when a pull is exerted on the other end of the fishtape. The mass of resilient and absorbent material supported by the carrier expands to the inner diameter of the conduit when leaving the sleeve casing and absorbs part of an additional supply of lubricant contained in the cartridge. Pulling the lubricant-impregnated mass of resilient and absorbent material on the carrier ahead of the electrical cables coats the wall of the conduit with a film of lubricant.
Abstract:
A frusto-conical trowel made up of a plurality of overlapping arcuate leaves includes an inflatable member within the trowel to bear against the leaves and urge them outwardly with a substantially uniform force against coating material being applied to the inside surface of a pipe.
Abstract:
An apparatus for the application of a coating on the inner wall surface of a duct comprising a forward and rearward piston, axially displaceable and defining a space therebetween for a coating mass, and further including a rotating polishing device upstream of both pistons, and a guide cable attached to the polishing device and passing through both pistons.
Abstract:
A device is provided for lining pipes and the like with calcite. The device includes a reaction and mixing chamber in a U-shaped tube through which a supersaturated solution of calcium carbonate is circulated and delivered through the pipe to be lined. The solution is recycled from the pipe through the reaction chamber where calcium chloride and sodium carbonate are added to maintain the supersaturated conditions. Portions of municipal water main systems can be closed off, lined quickly and put back in service.
