Abstract: A method for detecting and identifying a remote gas, the method comprising the steps of: receiving a light wave associated with the remote gas; coupling the light wave into a single mode fibre; transmitting the light wave via the single mode fibre into a filter comprising a fibre-based tunable cavity; modulating the cavity length of the filter transmission window to cause a detected modulated signal that is proportional to the spectral feature; and processing the signal using a lock-in amplifier capable of low-pass filtering and out-of-frequency noise rejection.

Abstract: A dual-comb spectrometer comprising two lasers outputting respective frequency combs having a frequency offset between their intermode beat frequencies. One laser acts as a master and the other as a follower. Although the master laser is driven nominally with a DC drive signal, the current on its drive input line nevertheless oscillates with an AC component that follows the beating of the intermode comb lines lasing in the driven master laser. This effect is exploited by tapping off this AC component and mixing it with a reference frequency to provide the required frequency offset, the mixed signal then being supplied to the follower laser as the AC component of its drive signal. The respective frequency combs in the optical domain are thus phase-locked relative to each other in one degree of freedom, so that the electrical signals obtained by multi-heterodyning the two optical signals are frequency stabilized.

Abstract: A spectroscopy system includes a plurality of light sources, a plurality of detectors, and control circuitry. The control circuitry may be configured to control each light source to output frequency modulated light beams into an object and receive detector-specific data from the detectors. The detector-specific data may be representative of scattered and unabsorbed light resultant from the frequency modulated light beams interacting with the object. The control circuitry may be further configured to determine, for a source-detector link defined by a pairing of a first light source with a first detector, a link phase differential based on received phase information extracted from the detector-specific data for the source-detector link and source phase information of a first frequency modulated light beam from the first light source. Also, the control circuitry may be configured to determine a source-detector link quality metric for the source-detector link based on the link phase differential.

Abstract: Modulation-encoded light, using different spectral bin coded light components, can illuminate a stationary or moving (relative) target object or scene. Response signal processing can use information about the respective different time-varying modulation functions, to decode to recover information about a respective response parameter affected by the target object or scene. Electrical or optical modulation encoding can be used. LED-based spectroscopic analysis of a composition of a target (e.g., SpO2, glucose, etc.) can be performed; such can optionally include decoding of encoded optical modulation functions. Baffles or apertures or optics can be used, such as to constrain light provided by particular LEDs. Coded light illumination can be used with a focal plane array light imager receiving response light for inspecting a moving semiconductor or other target. Encoding can use orthogonal functions, such as an RGB illumination sequence, or a sequence of combinations of spectrally contiguous or non-contiguous colors.

The sealed cavity contains a dipolar gas having a pressure of less than 0.5 mbar. The stackable molecular spectroscopy cell also includes a metal layer covering an inner surface of the hollow body and an inner surface of the first and second caps, including a first aperture in the metal layer covering the inner surface of the first cap and a second aperture in the metal layer covering the inner surface of the second cap.

Abstract: An ultrahigh-resolution mid-infrared (MIR) dual-comb spectroscopy (DCS) measurement device includes a pump unit, a microring resonator (MRR) unit, a modulation unit, a splitting unit, a testing unit, a signal detection unit, a power balance unit, a reference detection unit and a spectral analysis unit. The measurement method includes: adjusting the laser emitted by the pump unit to the MRR unit; adjusting the modulation unit and performing dual-frequency modulation; generating two sets of MIR optical frequency combs (OFCs) with different repetition rates and splitting the MIR OFCs into the test light and the reference light; performing photoelectric conversion on the test light and injecting the test light to the spectral analysis unit; performing photoelectric conversion on the reference light and injecting the reference light to the spectral analysis unit; and performing Fourier transformation and data processing on test results to obtain absorption spectrum of the to-be-tested sample.

Abstract: A method for measuring a property of radiation from different sources such as moving particles or different spatial locations on each particle includes providing a spatial modulator common to all of the sources having a sequence of configurations, each of which configurations causes the radiation flux to pass along paths to respective modulation ports and cycling the common spatial modulator past each of the modulation ports so that the sequence of configurations is applied to each modulation port. The sequence of configurations comprises an ordered array of optical elements on a substrate. In one embodiment, the modulator is arranged in a circle around an axis of rotation of a rotating singulation disk. At least one source is a reference source which has not interacted with the source to be analyzed and the sample and reference sources are compared.
