Abstract:
Both an on screen display and a physical programmable remote control have buttons whose functionality may be dynamically reassigned in accordance with a user's navigation through menu levels, states or across different services. The physical programmable remote control, in conjunction with a TV or other video display, provides an intuitive, heads up experience for the user and eliminates the need for multiple physical remote controls. User profiles and zones may be used to customize a user's remote control functionality based on preferences, access controls, location and the like.
Abstract:
A hand-held electronic device having a remote control application user interface that functions to displays operational mode information to a user. The graphical user interface may be used, for example, to setup the remote control application to control appliances for one or more users in one or more rooms, to perform activities, and to access favorites. The remote control application is also adapted to be upgradeable. Furthermore, the remote control application provides for the sharing of operational mode information.
Abstract:
A method of controlling an installation formed by a plurality of home automation equipment items linked to a building, and handling therein, depending on the type of home automation equipment item, thermal and visual comfort functions, such as heating and air conditioning, natural ventilation, lighting, solar protection functions, and/or security functions, such as closure and/or alarm functions, the home automation equipment items communicating over one and the same home automation network. A programmable remote control implementing the control method.
Abstract:
An appurtenant remote control adapter device suited for application with portable remote controllers commonly used with entertainment equipment including television receptors. The proxy adaptor is configured to intercept a sequence of wireless command signals emitted by the remote control. The intercepted command signals are adapted for temporal storage in a memory. A singular “SEND” command button may be subsequently actuated by a user to urge discharge of the temporarily stored wireless command signal from the memory for forthright translation to a remotely controlled apparatus as a usually singular packetized data burst of wireless signal. The adapter allows a user to leisurely enter individual keystrokes composing the command signal sequence and only then necessarily aim the adapter towards the remotely controlled apparatus with a concurrent singular actuation of the SEND key-button to translate the wireless signal to command the remotely controlled apparatus.
Abstract:
Provided are an apparatus, system and method thereof for a remote control including a radio frequency (RF) antenna operable to transmit an RF signal to a first device; an infrared (IR) transmitter operable to transmit an IR signal to a second device; a user input unit operable to receive an input command from a user; a controller which determines if the input command is received, and if the input command is received, the controller controls the RF antenna to transmit the RF signal to the first device and the controller controls the IR transmitter to transmit the IR signal to the second device.
Abstract:
Methods for operation and a remote control are provided. In one embodiment, a method for operation includes detecting an activity mode for the remote control, wherein the activity mode is based on user programming of the remote control to operate one or more devices for at least one type of communication provided by a communication interface of the remote control. The process may further include detecting a user selection of a user interface of the remote control, wherein the user selection is associated with a command for the one or more devices, and determining a communication setting based on the user selection and the activity mode. The command may be transmitted by the communication interface of the remote control to the one or more of the devices based on the communication setting, wherein transmission of the command is based on one or more communication types of the communication interface.

Abstract:
A method for clearing a memory component of an electronic device using a universal remote control unit includes initiating, by a user, an upgrading mode; entering, by a user, a code associated with a device to be controlled by the remote control unit; entering, by a user, a signal formatting data entry which includes signal formatting data, via the keys of the keypad, to be stored in memory of the remote control unit; and associating the type of device to be controlled by the remote control unit with the signal formatting data entry. The signal formatting data is formed to allow a sequence of depression of keys to cause the memory component of the device to be cleared.
Abstract:
Devices and methods are disclosed for establishing interaction among electronic devices of an environment. The device has a transmitter, receiver, memory for storing interaction rules, and a processor for learning the interaction rules in association with the transmitter, receiver, and other devices of the environment. The device also includes components for performing the device specific functions and a state sensor for determining the logical or physical state of the device. Methods involve observing at one or more devices change of state activity among the plurality of devices through receiving a change of state message that is transmitted to the one or more devices. A set of rules are learned at the one or more devices based upon observing the change of state activity. The learned set of rules are then applied at the one or more devices to automatically control changes of state of devices within the plurality of devices.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for easily setting a macro of a programmable remote control using a PC. The apparatus setting a macro of a remote control including: an input unit, inputting data or commands; a display unit displaying the data input by the user and/or data that is able to be selected by the user; a data transceiver receiving data from the remote control and transmitting data to the remote control; a memory storing device names assigned by the user and a data file of device function control commands received from the remote control via the data transceiver; and a controller displaying on the display unit a list of the device names and the commands included in the data file stored in the memory and setting a command selected from the command list as a macro command corresponding to a macro name.
