    Abstract: An electrostatic powder coating installation incorporating a cabin serving to house the articles to be coated, the internal space of the cabin being connected with a suction device. Further, there is provided a filter which bounds with one face or side thereof a part of the internal space of the cabin and with its other side or face confronts the inlet of the suction device. A cleaning device is operatively associated with the filter and movable relative thereto, this cleaning device removing from the filter the excess powder deposited upon the filter and delivering such to a collecting container.

    Abstract: Objects are coated in electrostatic fluidized or fluidic bed apparatus which includes a mechanical barrier effectively interposed between the cloud of charged particles and the travel path for objects conveyed therethrough. The barrier means includes an upstanding baffle having an edge portion configured to expose different vertical portions of the object as it is conveyed thereby. Generally, at the beginning of the travel path the lower portions of the objects will be masked by the baffle so as to promote deposition of the particles upon the upper surfaces initially. As it proceeds along the travel path, progressive exposure of the lower portions of the object will permit the complete and uniform coating thereof.

    Abstract: A system for applying a coating of electrical insulating material to the exterior surface areas of a capacitor can designed to carry the capacitor cans on work holders through a sequential series of treating stations, and using a conveyor system to carry the work holder and associated capacitor cans through the various treating stations. At the first treating station, a primer paint coating is applied to the capacitor can, and after it is dried in an oven, the capacitor can is passed through a deposition chamber where the capacitor can is exposed to a cloud pattern of insulating charged particles that deposit an insulating layer on its exterior surface. The insulating layer is then fused and cured by an infrared heating process and after the can is cooled, it is removed by a worker from the conveyor system.

    Abstract: Articles (e.g., aluminum extrusions) are suspended from a conveyor for transport through a continuous painting line. The articles are suspended by hangers, each of which includes a gripper plate swingably connected to a stabilizer plate. The stabilizer plate is rigidly connected to an elongated member which is swingably connected to the conveyor. The gripper plate has slots which receive the articles, and enlarged recesses which allow relative swinging movement between the article and the gripper plate so that the extrusion operatively engages gripper corners of the gripper plate. The gripper corners securely hold the extrusion by action of gravity tending to swing the extrusion in lever fashion to jam the extrusion between the gripper corners.

    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for applying coating materials to articles, using electrogasdynamic apparatus providing a flow channel having a dielectric boundary which has a length-/width ratio of greater than 2.5. Gas containing particulate coating material is ionized to create an electrical discharge field for imparting an electrical charge to the particles prior to passage through the dielectrically bounded flow path and thereby creating a high space charge potential. In special applications, a freeradical forming monomer gas or a fusible particle substance is carried in an inert gas into the electrical discharge field and through the flow channel toward the article to be coated. In any case, the charged particles are subjected to an axial charge repelling field (due to space charge effects) in the flow channel to raise the electrical potential of the particles, and thereby the potential gradient between the particles and the workpiece.
