Abstract: A fuel cell purging control method for controlling hydrogen purge of a fuel cell including a stack having an anode and a cathode, an air supply device having an air supply line supplying air to the cathode of the stack, a back pressure adjusting valve adjusting back pressure of the air supply device, and a hydrogen supply device supplying hydrogen to the anode of the stack, includes steps of: determining hydrogen purge of the fuel cell while the fuel cell is being normally operated, reducing back pressure of the air supply line of the fuel cell when the hydrogen purge is determined, and purging hydrogen in the anode of the fuel cell for a preset period of time after the step of reducing the back pressure.

Abstract: A saddle-ride type vehicle includes an air-cooled fuel cell unit that is mounted on a body frame behind a head pipe and in front of a pivot frame and uses taken-in outside air for supplying oxygen and cooling a unit. The fuel cell unit includes an outside air intake open forward below the head pipe and an exhaust port open rearward above a pivot. A seat frame has a monocoque structure also having a configuration of an exhaust duct for guiding exhaust gas from the fuel cell unit to a back of an occupant's seat. Accordingly, in the saddle-ride type vehicle, it is possible to realize more efficient ventilation in utilizing a fuel cell.

Abstract: A fuel cell apparatus (10) and method (50) of operating a fuel cell are provided. The fuel cell apparatus (10) includes a fuel cell assembly (12) having a first outlet (26) and a first vessel (34) coupled to the first outlet (26) and forming a first dead end. The first vessel (34) is arranged to receive and hold a portion of a first reactant and water when a supply of the first reactant is being fed to the fuel cell assembly (12) and to return the first reactant in the first vessel (34) to the fuel cell assembly (12) via the first outlet (26) when the supply of the first reactant to the fuel cell assembly (12) is cut off.

Abstract: A pressure vessel for the storage of pressurized fluids for a fuel cell system, a liner for the pressurized vessel and a method of making. The method of manufacturing a pressure vessel includes forming a lost core assembly, a reinforcement structure around the assembly and removing the core from said assembly to define an internal compartment. The lost core assembly includes a first sacrificial material used to define the shape of the pressure vessel's internal compartment, boss attachable to the first material for the introduction and removal of the fluid into the pressure vessel, and a second material for placement around the first material and at least a portion of the boss such that upon removal of the first material, the second material defines the liner. The reinforcement structure is wound around the liner to give the pressure vessel a unitary, composite structure.

Abstract: A fuel cell vehicle includes a fuel cell stack, a fuel tank, a body-side mounting portion, a main fuel pipe, a securing mechanism, and an elastic pipe. The fuel cell stack is disposed in a front section of the fuel cell vehicle. The fuel tank is disposed in a rear section of the fuel cell vehicle. The main fuel pipe connects the fuel tank and the body-side mounting portion. The elastic pipe is connected to the fuel cell stack at a first end of the elastic pipe and connected, via the securing mechanism, to the body-side mounting portion at a second end of the elastic pipe opposite to the first end such that the second end of the elastic pipe is disengaged from the body-side mounting portion when a load larger than a predetermined threshold load is applied to the securing mechanism.

Abstract: A reactor unit includes reactors; and a cooler. The reactors are disposed in at least one line on a reactor cooling surface that is one of outer surfaces of the cooler. The cooler has a cooling medium flow passage that is in contact with an inner surface on a reverse side of the reactor cooling surface. The cooling medium flows linearly from an inlet portion to an outlet portion of the cooling medium flow passage. A direction in which the cooling medium flows inside the cooling medium flow passage is same as a direction in which the reactors are disposed in the at least one line. Cooling fins are provided on the inner surface on the reverse side of the reactor cooling surface. A longitudinal direction of each cooling fin is same as the direction in which the cooling medium flows inside the cooling medium flow passage.

Abstract: A protective cover (10) for a portable computing device (1) provides a fuel source (14) disposed within a compartment in the protective cover. The fuel source may be a hydrogen fuel source suitable for delivering hydrogen to a fuel cell (15) within the protective cover or within the portable computing device, for generating electrical power for use by the portable computing device. The protective cover may have a plurality of planar panels (11) separated by a one or more hinge regions (12) which can each house a fuel source compartment. The protective cover may also be serviceable as a stand.
