An aqueous machining fluid composition having improved resistance to microorganisms is provided. The fluid composition comprises in admixture: a) water, b) a water insoluble organic lubricant, c) a surface active agent selected from the group consisting of nonionic, anionic having up to and including 12 carbon atoms, and cationic surfactants and mixtures thereof and d) a water soluble polyquaternary cationic biocide. Machining processes comprising the step of supplying said aqueous machining fluid to the interface between the tool and the workpiece are also provided.
Abstract:
A lubricant composition comprising from 0.1 to 10% by weight of a phosphate glass, characterized in that said phosphate glass comprises from 45 to 75 mole % of P.sub.2 O.sub.5, from 10 to 35 mole % of M.sub.2 O (M represents alkaline metals) and from 0 to 45 mole % of B.sub.2 O.sub.3. Phosphate glasses are in the form of powder with white to ash-colored appearance, and do not cause dirt of working surroundings. Phosphate glasses are less expensive than solid lubricants which are conventionally used, and also excellent load carrying capacity can be attained by adding a small amount of phosphate glass to a lubricant composition. Accordingly, the lubricant composition of the present invention shows better load carrying capacity than a conventional lubricant composition.
Abstract:
Lubricant composition for use on workpieces in the hot forming of metals, which contains: (a.sub.1) 0 to 80 percent by weight of a glass powder, (a.sub.2) 0 to 50 percent by weight of a glass frit whereby the content of at least one component (a.sub.1) or (a.sub.2) in the lubricant composition is not 0 percent by weight, (b) 10 to 25 percent by weight of natural or synthetic graphite, (c) 5 to 20 percent by weight of one or more alkali metal silicates of the general formula Me.sub.2 O.n SiO.sub.2, where Me is lithium, potassium or sodium and n is a number between 1 and 4, (d) 1 to 6 percent by weight of a water-soluble sodium polymetaphosphate, (e) 0 to 3 percent by weight of a water-insoluble sodium polymetaphosphate,(f) 0.5 to 4 percent by weight of a thickener, and (g) 0 to 1 percent by weight of borax.
Abstract:
A release agent for green sand mold forming contains a hydrocarbon oil as the main lubrication component. The release agent contains a surface active agent as a dispersant and an anion surface active agent and/or a strong basic amine as a wettability improving agent as essential components besides the hydrocarbon oil. The release agent is used in a form of oil-in-water type emulsion by diluting it with water. Since it is possible to dilute the release agent with water, the release agent occupies less capacity during storage and transportation, and since the release agent can increase the water to the hydrocarbon oil ratio of the composition at application, it contributes to improvements in resource saving and safety against fire.
Abstract:
An aqueous functional fluid composition free of formaldehyde and formaldehyde producing agents, more especially an aqueous metalworking fluid composition, having improved resistance to attack by microorganisms is provided. This fluid comprises a) water, b) a water soluble or dispersible functioning agent (e.g. water soluble or dispersible organic lubricant) and c) an antimicrobial effective amount of the combination of d) a water soluble or dispersible nitrogen bearing organic compound (e.g. monoethanolamine) and e) a water soluble or dispersible haloalkynylalkyl carbamate (e.g. 1-iodo-3-propynylbutyl carbamate).
Abstract:
This invention relates to improved grease compositions comprising a major amount of an oil based simple metal soap thickened base grease and a minor amount of at least one phosphorus and boron containing composition, said phosphorus and boron containing composition prepared by reacting a combination of (A) at least one boron compound and (B) at least one phospholipid. In one embodiment, the phosphorus and boron containing composition is present in amounts sufficient to improve the extreme pressure, antiwear and lubricity properties of the base grease. In another embodiment the phosphorus and boron containing composition is present in amounts sufficient to increase the dropping point of the base grease, as determined by ASTM procedure D-2265, by at least 20.degree. C.
Abstract:
Lubricant additives are disclosed which are produced by reacting an alkanolamine, a carboxylic acid and phosphorous acid. The reaction product may also include a boron compound and/or a monofunctional alcohol. The additives are useful in combination with metalworking oils, particularly in extreme pressure applications, to replace currently used chlorinated paraffin additives.
Abstract:
