    Abstract: A motion sensor includes an infrared detector having a single linear array of at least four detector elements disposed on a substrate. The motion sensor also includes an optical system to simultaneously direct electromagnetic energy from two or more curtains of monitored volumes onto the linear array of detector elements. The two or more curtains of the monitored volumes having a tilt angle from a vertical orientation of the motion sensor to create a quadrature horizontal spatial relationship between the monitored volumes. Signals from the linear array of detector elements are then processed to detect a quadrature phase relationship between the signals, and an indication of human presence is provided if a quadrature phase relationship is found.

    Abstract: In one example, an apparatus comprises: a photodiode configured to generate charge in response to incident light within an exposure period; and a quantizer configured to perform at least one of a first quantization operation to generate a first digital output or a second quantization to generate a second digital output, and output, based on a range of an intensity of the incident light, one of the first digital output or the second digital output to represent the intensity of the incident light. The first quantization operation comprises quantizing at least a first part of the charge during the exposure period to generate the first digital output. The second quantization operation comprises quantizing at least a second part of the charge after the exposure period to generate the second digital output.

    Abstract: A method of monitoring ultraviolet radiation reflectance is provided for activating an ultraviolet radiation reflectance digital sensor and display monitor; capturing ultraviolet radiation reflectance passing through a lens onto the digital senor; analyzing ultraviolet radiation reflectance against a preloaded and predetermined color palate; generating a video image; and outputting the video image to the display monitor. A device is also provided for an ultraviolet radiation reflectance monitoring application which receives data from an ultraviolet radiation sensitive digital imaging plate installed on the device; wherein the application processes data received from the digital imaging plate and generates an output image of ultraviolet radiation reflectance to a video monitor communicatively connected to the device.

    Abstract: A wearable apparatus for indicating a threshold amount of ultra-violet (UV) light has been received by a user and method of making the same are provided. In an embodiment, a wearable apparatus includes a first material and a second material. The second material includes a color changing material that changes color from a first color to a second color when exposed to a threshold level of UV light. The wearable apparatus is configured to be worn by a user in a place exposed to sunlight. The second color indicates that the user has been exposed to a threshold amount of UV light.
