Abstract: An electromagnet assembly suitable for mass spectrometer comprising one yoke; and two pole pieces; the pole pieces being comprised in a vacuum chamber and being separated from each other by a pole piece gap defining a passage for the charged particles to be deflected; the yoke forming a bridge over the two pole pieces thus defining a magnetic circuit. The electromagnet assembly further comprises one electrical circuit for generating a magnetic flux in the magnetic circuit, the electrical circuit being included in the yoke. The electromagnet assembly is remarkable in that the pole pieces are electrically insulated from the electrical circuit and from the yoke by first electrical insulating means and are electrically insulated from the vacuum chamber.

Abstract: The invention is directed to mass spectrometer comprising an extraction system for secondary ions. The system comprises: an inner spherical deflecting sector; an outer spherical deflecting sector; a deflecting gap formed between the sectors; a housing in which the sectors are arranged. The deflecting sectors are biased at retarding potentials in order to reduce the energy of the ion beam entering the deflecting gap. The system further comprises an exit disc electrode which is biased at the midvoltage of the average voltage of the sectors, and two side plates both facing the spherical sectors, the side plates being biased in order to create an electrostatic field perpendicular to the exit axis.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for degrading and inactivating at least one xenobiotic, the at least one xenobiotic being present in an aqueous medium. Abstract: A black ceramic composite coating is presented. The ceramic composite coating comprises a ceramic matrix having embedded therein carbide nanoparticles (in particular metal carbide nanoparticles) and/or metal-carbon composite nanoparticles (with separate metal and carbon phases) embedded therein. The carbide nanoparticles are metastable and the metal-carbon composite nanoparticles are decay products of the metastable carbide nanoparticles.
