Abstract:
Disclosed is a thermoplastic resin foam which is obtained by subjecting a thermoplastic resin composition containing a thermoplastic elastomer and an active-energy-ray-curable resin to foam molding to give a foamed structure, and irradiating the foamed structure with an active energy ray to allow the active-energy-ray-curable resin to form a cross-linked structure in the foamed structure. Also disclosed is a thermoplastic resin foam which is obtained by subjecting a thermoplastic resin composition containing a thermoplastic elastomer, an active-energy-ray-curable resin, and a thermal cross-linking agent to foam molding to give a foamed structure, irradiating the foamed structure with an active energy ray to allow the active-energy-ray-curable resin to form a cross-linked structure in the foamed structure, and heating the resulting foamed structure bearing the cross-linked structure to thereby allow the thermal cross-linking agent to form another cross-linked structure in the foamed structure.
Abstract:
A process for the continuous production of granules based on thermoplastic polymers includes at least one expandable agent and, optionally, other polymers or additives, among which inorganic pigments insoluble in the polymeric matrix, wherein a first main stream is prepared, in the molten state, and a second stream in the molten state, which englobes the additives and which is added to the first stream. The mixture is extruded through a die which is cooled by means of water jets from nozzles positioned behind the cutting blades.
Abstract:
The invention relates to multi-layer articles consisting of at least one layer of a foamed fluoropolymer. The article is formed by co-extrusion in which the foamed layer is coextruded as a foam, and not foamed in a secondary process. Preferably the fluoropolymer foam is a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), such as KYNAR PVDF from Arkema Inc. The article could be sized into a specific shape during the manufacturing process. Useful multi-layer articles of the invention include pipe, tube, sheet, profile, film, jacketing or any other multilayer foam-core articles are especially useful.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a polymer composite that includes reacting (a) a multi-functional monomer and (b) a block copolymer comprising (i) a first block and (ii) a second block that includes a functional group capable of reacting with the multi-functional monomer, to form a crosslinked, nano-structured, bi-continuous composite. The composite includes a continuous matrix phase and a second continuous phase comprising the first block of the block copolymer.
Abstract:
Scaffold comprises a polymer defining macropores and comprising hydroxypropylcellulose partially substituted by a substituent comprising a self-crosslinkable group, which is crosslinked through the self-crosslinkable group. The macropores have an average pore size larger than 50 microns and are at least partially interconnected. In one method, bicontinuous emulsion comprising a continuous aqueous phase and a continuous polymer phase is formed. The polymer phase comprises hydroxypropylcellulose partially substituted by a substituent comprising a self-crosslinkable group, and is crosslinked through the self-crosslinkable group to form a polymer defining at least partially interconnected pores. In another method, phase separation is induced in a solution comprising a polymer precursor and water to form a bicontinuous emulsion comprising a continuous polymer phase and a continuous aqueous phase. The polymer precursor comprises a self-crosslinkable group and is crosslinked through the self-crosslinkable group in the emulsion to form a polymer defining at least partially interconnected macropores.
