A high performance lubricating grease effectively lubricates and greases front-wheel drive joints. The lubricating grease has excellent extreme pressure properties and antiwear qualities and is economical, effective, and safe. In one preferred form, the lubricating grease comprises a base oil, a polyurea thickener, an additive package comprising calcium sulfate and calcium acetate.

A lubricating composition possessing properties highly suitable for warm and hot forging has an ultrahigh molecular polyethylene powder possessing a molecular weight of not less than 1,000,000 dispersed and contained in a medium of water or oil; has an ultrahigh molecular polyethylene powder possessing a molecular weight of not less than 1,000,000 and an inorganic solid lubricant of a white or light color dispersed and contained in a medium of water or oil; or has an ultrahigh molecular polyethylene powder possessing a molecular weight of not less than 1,000,000 and a polyethylene oxide powder possessing a melting point in the range of 80.degree. to 120.degree. C. dispersed and contained in a medium of water.

A dispersing agent for use in dispersing a finely divided solid powder in a nonaqueous dispersion medium and a dispersion prepared by using the dispersing agent. The dispersing agent of this invention is a low acid value lanolin fatty acid and/or a salt of the same. By means of this dispersing agent, there can be easily obtained a homogeneous and stable nonaqueous dispersion from which the incorporated solid particles will not separate out or settle even on prolonged standing. Therefore, this dispersing agent can be used advantageously in a broad range of applications such as coatings, dyes, pigments, inks, fuels, lubricating materials and so on.

A process is provided for lubricating and protecting bearings in steel and process mills. In the process, metal is processed in the mill and conveyed on caster rollers. The caster rollers are lubricated with a special grease which enhances the longevity of the rollers, protects the rollers from rust and corrosion, and prevents the grease from leaking out of the rollers. In the preferred form, the grease comprises a water-resistant polymer to prevent the grease from washing out of the rollers and bearings when the metal workpiece is quenched with a high pressure water spray.

A process is provided for preventing grease fires, which is particularly useful in steel mills and process mills. In the process, when a flame is ignited and approaches a special grease, the special grease emits carbon dioxide to extinguish the flame and prevents combustion of the grease.

The present invention relates to a temper rolling oil which comprises:(A) a water-soluble cationic compound prepared by neutralizing a condensation product obtained by reacting the following compounds 1 to 3 with each other by heating:1. an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid,2. at least one amino compound represented by the following formulae (a) to (c): ##STR1## 3. a particular polyethyleneimine, with an oxoacid of phosphorus, (B) an aqueous rust preventive, and(C) water.The present invention is also concerned with a method of temper rolling which, comprises of conducting temper rolling at a reduction ranging from 0.5 to 30% using a dilute solution prepared by diluting a temper rolling oil of the kind as described above, so that the concentration of a water-soluble cation compound contained therein is 300 to 5,000 ppm.

A method is provided for manufacturing a grease that exhibits high performance qualities at extremely cold temperatures and moderately elevated temperatures, as well as under normal operating conditions. In the method, a lithium soap thickener is formed in, heated, and mixed with polyalphaolefin. Upon cooling, a diester oil is blended with the polyalphaolefin and lighium soap thickener. Subsequently, extreme pressure antiwear additives and oxidation and corrosion inhibitors are added to the grease. Special hydroxides can also be intermittently added to enhance the performance of the grease under extreme temperatures as well as to minimize oil bleeding and transesterification.

The high performance grease comprises: a lithium soap thickener, a synthetic base oil blend of diester and polyalphaolefin, and extreme pressure antiwear additives and inhibitors comprising dithiocarbamates, phosphates, and hydroxides.
