Abstract: Liquid, air, or surface treatment/sterilization/disinfection using pulsed light to eliminate, reduce, degrade, render inert, or nullify physical, chemical, biological, microbiological, or non-microbiological contaminants is disclosed herein. The system also includes at least one power supply powering the light source of the reactor, an ionized wire wrapped outside the light source of the reactor, at least one digital multiplexer connected to the at least one power supply, and a controller to control the at least one digital multiplexer to power the light source to strobe the pulsed light at a predetermined fluence, a predetermined pulsed width, and a predetermined frequency or spectrum to eliminate, reduce, degrade, render inert, or nullify the physical, chemical, biological, microbiological, or non-microbiological contaminants in a liquid flow, air, or surface at a molecular level.

Abstract: A method and system of providing ultrapure water for semiconductor fabrication operations is provided. The water is treated by utilizing a free radical scavenging system. The free radical scavenging system can utilize actinic radiation with a free radical precursor compound, such as ammonium persulfate. The ultrapure water may be further treated by utilizing ion exchange media and degasification apparatus. A control system can be utilized to regulate a continuously variable intensity of the actinic radiation.

Abstract: A solution for treating a fluid, such as water, is provided. An ultraviolet transparency of a fluid can be determined before or as the fluid enters a disinfection chamber. In the disinfection chamber, the fluid can be irradiated by ultraviolet radiation to harm microorganisms that may be present in the fluid. One or more attributes of the disinfection chamber, fluid flow, and/or ultraviolet radiation can be adjusted based on the transparency to provide more efficient irradiation and/or higher disinfection rates. In addition, various attributes of the disinfection chamber, such as the position of the inlet(s) and outlet(s), the shape of the disinfection chamber, and other attributes of the disinfection chamber can be utilized to create a turbulent flow of the fluid within the disinfection chamber to promote mixing and improve uniform ultraviolet exposure.

Abstract: A variety of applications for UV LEDs that are integrated into a system are described, where the UV light is used for disinfection of air or surfaces, or used to detect the scattering light by particles, or used for skin treatment. In one embodiment, a ceiling luminaire includes a sensor for detecting the presence of people in the room. The luminaire contains a first set of LEDs for generating white light, for illumination, and a second set of LEDs for generating UV light for disinfecting the room. When the sensor detects that no people are in the room, the system automatically controls the UV LEDs to turn on to disinfect the room. The white light LEDs may be independently controlled with a dimmer.

Abstract: There is described an on-line device for controlling a fluid treatment process configured to inactivate a microorganism in a flow of fluid using ultraviolet radiation and a chemical disinfectant. The device comprises: a memory for receiving a calculated database of dose response for the ultraviolet radiation and for the chemical disinfectant for a fluid treatment parameter; means to obtain input data about the fluid treatment parameter from the process; means to compare the input data with calculated database; and means to adjust one or more of the amount ultraviolet radiation and the chemical disinfectant added to the flow fluid in response to a difference between the input data and calculated database. There is also described a process for controlling a fluid treatment process configured to inactivate a microorganism in a flow of fluid using ultraviolet radiation and a chemical disinfectant.

Abstract: A ballast circuit is disclosed for inductively providing power to a load. The ballast circuit includes an oscillator, a driver, a switching circuit, a resonant tank circuit and a current sensing circuit. The current sensing circuit provides a current feedback signal to the oscillator that is representative of the current in the resonant tank circuit. The current feedback signal drives the frequency of the ballast circuit causing the ballast circuit to seek resonance. The ballast circuit preferably includes a current limit circuit that is inductively coupled to the resonant tank circuit. The current limit circuit disables the ballast circuit when the current in the ballast circuit exceeds a predetermined threshold or falls outside a predetermined range.
