Abstract:
A method and apparatus for remote control and/or monitoring of a multimedia system includes processing that begins when a hand held device transmits a remote control/monitoring request to a server. The processing continues once a communication path is established between the hand held device and the server by having the server determine remote control and monitoring privileges of the hand held device. If the hand held device has at least a minimum level of remote control and monitoring privileges, the processing continues as the server processes the remote control/monitoring request with respect to at least one client to produce operational monitoring data. The processing continues as the server provides the operational monitoring data to the hand held device via the communication path.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for data stream control for network devices. Some embodiments of an apparatus include a receiver to receive a token for a command associated with a stream of data, where the command is one of multiple command types. The token has a fixed size and format, and the token is provided in a field of a data packet. The apparatus further includes a network unit to determine the type of command based on the token, to parse a set of fields in the data packet for command data, and implement the command.
Abstract:
A movement made by a user viewing a television broadcast program, which is recorded on a hard disk device and read from the hard disk device to enable time shift viewing, is reproduced at a television (TV) set. The movement of the user is detected via a transmitting and receiving unit to which an electronic key card is held, and a reproduction position on a hard disk is recorded in a memory of a controlling apparatus main unit. A destination of the user is detected via a transmitting and receiving unit to which the electronic key card is held, and the broadcast signal is read from the stored reproduction position on the hard disk and then transferred to an electronic device at the destination. This enables a continuation of the broadcast program that was viewed to be viewed in a room at the destination.
Abstract:
A method for controlling a plurality of devices including a master device having AV terminals and slave devices connected to the master device through a communication control line, with the use of a single remote control. The method includes detecting the slave devices, and allocating a device ID to each of the slave devices, identifying to which slave device each AV terminal is connected, by controlling the detected slave devices to be powered on or off through the communication control line with the use of the device ID, receiving a predetermined key code from a user's remote control, and determining which device among the master device and the slave devices to control and determining an operation of the device, by referring to an item of mapping table corresponding to the key code, and controlling operation of the device through the communication control line with the use of the device ID.
Abstract:
A method for remote control of structural appliances includes the steps of communicating a structural appliance with a server programmed to accept mobile device commands; communicating a mobile device with the server; issuing the mobile device commands from the mobile device to the server; converting the mobile device commands to structural appliance commands; and issuing the structural appliance commands from the server to the structural appliance, whereby wireless control of the structural appliance is established.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed toward a system and process that controls a group of networked electronic components using a multimodal integration scheme in which inputs from a speech recognition subsystem, gesture recognition subsystem employing a wireless pointing device and pointing analysis subsystem also employing the pointing device, are combined to determine what component a user wants to control and what control action is desired. In this multimodal integration scheme, the desired action concerning an electronic component is decomposed into a command and a referent pair. The referent can be identified using the pointing device to identify the component by pointing at the component or an object associated with it, by using speech recognition, or both. The command may be specified by pressing a button on the pointing device, by a gesture performed with the pointing device, by a speech recognition event, or by any combination of these inputs.

Abstract:
A controller is connected to one or more media devices. Each media device includes an associated native remote control. The controller includes a data store comprising one or more descriptions of remote control protocols. The user presses a button on the native remote control. The controller receives a resulting signal and compares the signal against the stored remote control protocols. After at least one and preferably less than three key presses, the controller identifies a single remote control protocol associated with the received signals, and thus identifies the media device whose remote control is being used. The user may subsequently use a controller remote control to issue commands to the media device through the controller. The controller may identify a plurality of media devices, and allow the user to issue complex commands. The controller may receive updates to its data store from a server through a network connection.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for remotely operating at least one remote controlled appliance through a monitor station of a video interphone. The appliance itself being capable of operation by a remote control device. The monitor station includes a receiving input, a central processing unit, a memory, select keys and at least one output. The remote control device is used for generating a coded signal to the receiving input which filters the received coded signal for feeding a clean envelope of the coded signal to the central processing unit. The central processing unit processes the envelope and generates counted data pertaining to the envelope and indexes and stores the counted data into the memory. One of the select keys is assigned for retrieving and feeding the counted data to the output on the basis of the indexing. The output regenerates the coded signal for operating the appliance.
Abstract:
A control gateway is configured to control at least one consumer electronic device. The control gateway includes an optical transmitter unit, a radio frequency (RF) transceiver unit, and a controller. The optical transmitter unit is configured to transmit optical signals compatible with a first type of consumer electronic device. The RF transceiver unit is configured to receive RF signals. The controller is configured to generate an output command configured to control the first type of consumer electronic device in response to RF signals received by the RF transceiver unit, and to communicate the output command through the optical transmitter unit to the first type of consumer electronic device. Related methods of controlling at least one consumer electronic device from a control gateway are also disclosed.
