Abstract: An emulsion stabilizer includes a biopolymer blend of one or more cellulose ether and one or more cross-linked, modified starch wherein one or more of the cellulose ether or the cross-linked, modified starch is hydrophobically modified and wherein the total amount of cellulose ethers in the biopolymer blend is not greater than 50wt %. The invention further relates to emulsion compositions comprising the emulsion stabilizer, and particularly oil-in-water emulsions. In one embodiment the emulsions are suitable for use in personal care formulations.

Abstract: A transparent pressure sensing film is provided having a matrix polymer; and, a plurality of hybrid particles; wherein the plurality of hybrid particles are disposed in the matrix polymer; wherein each hybrid particle in the plurality of hybrid particles, comprises a plurality of primary particles bonded together with an inorganic binder; wherein an electrical resistivity of the transparent pressure sensing film is variable in response to an applied pressure having a z-component directed along the thickness of the transparent pressure sensing film such that the electrical resistivity is reduced in response to the z-component of the applied pressure.

Abstract: A composite transparent pressure sensing film is provided having a matrix polymer wherein the matrix polymer is a combination of 25 to 75 wt % of an alkyl cellulose and 75 to 25 wt % of a polysiloxane; and, a plurality of hybrid particles, wherein each hybrid particle in the plurality of hybrid particles, comprises a plurality of primary particles bonded together with an inorganic binder; wherein the plurality of hybrid particles are disposed in the matrix polymer; wherein an electrical resistivity of the composite transparent pressure sensing film is variable in response to an applied pressure having a z-component directed along the thickness of the composite transparent pressure sensing film such that the electrical resistivity is reduced in response to the z-component of the applied pressure.

Also provided is a method of making such a composition using an extruder. Also provided is a film made by removing water from such a composition.

Abstract: Cellulose ether powder is prepared in a safe and easy way by first adding a surfactant solution to surfaces of water-soluble cellulose ether particles, and then adding a tannin solution thereto. The powder thus prepared is free of bitterness and readily dissolvable in cold water without forming clumps.
