Abstract:
A window or door unit comprises an outer frame, a sash or door mounted movably within the outer frame, and a sash or door removal prevention device. The device includes a blocking member supported on a header of the outer frame so as to be angularly movable between its horizontal and vertical positions. The device further includes means carried on the header for releasably retaining the blocking member in the horizontal position, whereby the sash or door can be prevented from being removed from the outer frame. When released from the retaining means, the blocking member pivots by gravity from the horizontal position to the vertical position where it is clearly visible, permitting the sash to be removed from the outer frame.
Abstract:
A window and door construction having a movable vent window supported on rollers for movement along a guideway of the window frame with all four sides engaging the window frame in air and watertight configuration as the vent window finally closes through means of a plurality of wedges engaging the vent window to compress weatherproof sealing insulation.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for selectively replacing any of a plurality of different types of railroad car door roller assemblies conventionally used with different types of railroad car door tracks. The method includes supplying a roller assembly replacement kit which includes a housing having a pair of spaced end sections wherein each of the end sections is constructed and arranged to rotatably support a roller member for movement on a cooperating one of the tracks. Each of the end sections has a pair of opposed side walls having downwardly projecting feet thereon. An intermediate section rigidly interconnects the end sections and an upright aperture is provided in the intermediate section. The kit also includes separate rigid guide blocks or pads, at least one hook member, and at least one threaded member. In replacing one selected type of roller assembly, the aperture in the housing is threaded and a threaded member is threadably secured into the threaded aperture. The housing then may be used to replace one type of roller assembly used in connection with one type of cooperating track. Other types of roller assemblies may be replaced in various ways including by welding guide blocks to the feet, by severing two feet, then welding guide blocks to each of the remaining feet, and welding the hook member to the top of the end section of the housing, or by severing two feet and welding J-shaped hooks to the remaining feet.
Abstract:
A door panel slidable in a door frame with a flexible guide for the upper end of the panel at the top of the frame and a track at bottom of the frame on which said panel is slidable on guides. The panel is maintained in engagement with said track by a retainer projecting from the lower end of the panel and formed to effect snap-on and snap-off engagement and disengagement with said track.
Abstract:
A unitary guide including a guide body having a guide element extendable through the guideway entrance and a laterally extending lug engageable with the shoulder within an elongated guideway. The guide body includes a lateral portion bridgeable across the entrance and being of a lateral dimension to inhibit ingress through the entrance when the element is positioned through the entrance. A resilient flexing portion is connected to the lateral portion whereby the lateral portion may bend about a longitudinal axis generally parallel with the guideway. The element and lug are insertable through the entrance by a pushing force thereon exerted perpendicularly to the guideway thereby bending the flexing portion. The element and lug are of a smaller lateral dimension with the flexing portion in a bent condition than the entrance to permit ingress of the element and lug therethrough and into the guideway. The element and lug are of a normal lateral dimension to inhibit egress thereof through the entrance after seating of the element and lug in the guideway by an outwardly pulling force thereon exerted perpendicularly to the guideway. The body has another lateral portion spaced from and above the first lateral portion and defining therebetween and with the flexing portion a space to permit first lateral portion to be swung thereinto upon bending of the flexing portion. The element includes a cam surface disposed rearwardly of the lug, such cam surface and lug being engageable with the entrance upon initial insertion of the element into the entrance.
Abstract:
AN ELONGATE LONGITUDINAL, PREFERABLY L-SHAPED CROSS SECTION AND PLASTIC TRACK IS SECURED AT AN UPPER EDGE OF A DOOR OPENING AND LONGITUDINALLY SLIDABLY SUPPORTS A DOOR THROUGH HANGERS FASTENED TO SAID DOOR. EACH HANGER IS INVERTED GENERALLY L-SHAPED IN CROSS SECTION ENGAGING UPWARDLY OVER A TRACK FLANGE AND DOWNWARDLY INTO SAID TRACK WITH A RESILIENTLY DEFORMABLY KEEPER PROJECTING GENERALLY TRANSVERSELY UNDERLYING AND ADJACENT SAID TRACK. THE KEEPER THEREBY NORMALLY RESTRICTS UPWARD MOVEMENT OF THE HANGER TO RETAIN ENGAGEMENT BETWEEN THE HANGER AND TRACK BUT IS RESILIENTLY DISTORTABLE UPWARDLY AGAINST THE TRACK FOR PERMITTING UPWARD MOVEMENT OF THE DOOR AND HANGER TO DISENGAGE SAID HANGER FROM SAID TRACK. THE HANGERS MAY BE FORMED UNITARY OF PLASTIC WITH THE KEEPERS
OF REDUCED CROSS SECTION FOR RELATIVE RESILIENCY AND THE REMAINDERS OF THE HANGERS INCREASED CROSS SECTION FOR RELATIVE RIGIDITY.
