    Abstract: A system and method uses field-oriented control (FOC) of a multi-phase motor to prevent thermal runaway of the thermal battery that powers the motor. An offset is applied to the flux command signal to ensure that the power level drawn from the thermal battery exceeds a minimum power level to avoid thermal runaway. This is done without any additional hardware, hence the reduced cost, inefficiencies and packaging volume of such hardware. In different modes, the offset is applied to prevent thermal runaway regardless of torque production, when the system is in failure and torque production is zero, for variable and intermittent periods when torque production is zero, and during normal operation to augment power drawn to produce torque.

The apparatus also includes a dispersive element coupled to the second optical modulator, a first optical detector coupled to the dispersive element, a third optical modulator optically coupled to the first optical detector and the first optical modulator, an optical 90-degree hybrid element optically coupled to the third optical modulator, and a plurality of optical detectors optically coupled to the optical 90-degree hybrid element.

    Abstract: An example system includes a dynamo-electric machine. The dynamo-electric machine includes a rotor that is cylindrical and that is configured for rotation and a stator that is arranged relative to the rotor. The stator has a stepped configuration that defines a first diameter for the stator and a second diameter for the stator. The first diameter is greater than the second diameter. Zones of the stator at the first diameter hold direct-axis (D-axis) windings and zones of the stator at the second diameter hold quadrature axis (Q-axis) windings. An airgap between the rotor and the Q-axis windings is greater than an airgap between the rotor and the D-axis windings.

    Abstract: Lidar and method for generating repeatable PPM waveforms to determine a range to a target include: a processor for a) creating a modulation pool, based on a maximum nominal PRF and a specified final PPM code length of N; b) obtaining a seed code; c) eliminating bad modulation levels from the modulation pool to generate a good modulation pool, d) selecting a modulation level from the good modulation pool; e) concatenating the selected modulation level to the seed code to generate an i-element modulation sequence; f) repeating steps c to e N times to generate an N-element modulation sequence; g) selecting a PRF less than the maximum nominal PRF; and h) generating a repeatable PPM waveform by applying the N-element modulation sequence to the selected PRF.

    Abstract: An RF imaging receiver using photonic spatial beam processing is provided with an optical beam steerer that directs the modulated optical signals to steer the composite optical signal and move the location of the spot on the optical detector array. The optical beam steerer may be implemented with one or more phase-dependent steering units in which each unit includes a waveplate and polarization grating to steer the modulated optical signals. The optical beam steerer may be configured to act on the individual modulated optical signals to induce individual phase delays that produce a phase delay with a linear term, and possibly spherical or aspherical terms, to steer the composite optical signal in which case the optical beam steerer may be implemented, for example, with an optical phase modulator and optical antenna in each optical channel which together form an OPA, a Risley prism or a liquid crystal or MEMs spatial light modulator.

    Abstract: A pixel includes a photo-diode, an integration capacitor arranged to receive a photo current from the photo-diode and to store charge developed from the photo current; and an injection transistor disposed between the photo-diode and the integration capacitor that controls flow of the photo current from the photo-diode to the integration capacitor, the injection transistor having a gate, a source electrically coupled to the photo-diode at a first node, and a drain electrically coupled to the integration capacitor. The injection transistor is a silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-silicon (SONOS) FET having its gate set to a SONOS gate voltage to control a detector bias voltage of the photo-diode at the first node.

    Abstract: Examples are directed to an approach to specifying design guidelines for fabricating a free-form optical component, and methods of fabricating the free-form optical components. In one example, a family of optical prescriptions is created, and a fabricator may manufacture the free-form optical element to any selected prescription within the family. According to certain examples, the series of prescriptions in the family each describe a very similar optical surface providing the same or similar optical performance, and are layered relative to one another such that the thickness of the optical element at any point is slightly less for each subsequent surface defined by the next prescription in the series.

The method can further include generating a first grid of cells representing an object track with the received feature values within an extent of the first grid of cells. The method can further include receiving second data input including second feature values of the features that indicate a second position. The method can further include, in response to determining the second feature values are within the extent of the first grid of cells adding a point corresponding to the second feature values to the first grid of cells to associate the point to an object track.
