Abstract:
The invention relates to an aqueous coating composition comprising a film-forming first polymer and a second polymer for improving the open time, the wet edge time, adhesion and/or hardness of the resulting coating. The invention further relates to said novel second polymer, its use in coating compositions for improving the open time and coalescence. The water soluble second polymer is an addition polymer comprising 25-95 wt % specific non-ionic hydrophilic monomers A and 5-75 wt % of hydrophobic monomers B which second polymer is sparingly water soluble and a solution of only said second polymer in water has a substantially Newtonian flow behaviour in a wide solid contents range.

The invention also concerns the use of this polymer solution as a flocculant, retention and/or drainage agent, and dry strength resistance in a paper manufacturing process.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for producing a binder composition, wherein the method comprises the following steps: (i) forming an aqueous composition comprising reactant components including lignin molecules of 11-60 lignin units, lignin molecules of 1-10 lignin units, polymerizable substance and crosslinking agent in the presence of a catalyst; and (ii) cooking the composition at a temperature of 60-95° C. for polymerizing the reactant components until a binder composition with a predetermined viscosity value is formed.
Abstract:
The present invention is a process for preparing a multistage polymer by contacting under emulsion polymerization conditions an acrylic monomer, a sulfur acid monomer, and a phosphorous acid monomer as described herein. The multistage polymer is useful as a binder for coatings compositions.

Abstract:
A hybrid pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) composition includes (i) a solvent phase comprising a first acrylic PSA dissolved in an organic solvent, an alcohol, and optionally water; and (ii) an emulsion phase comprising a second, emulsified acrylic PSA. In another aspect, a metalized film laminate includes a metalized film layer, a hybrid PSA layer, and an ink-containing polymeric film layer. The two-phase hybrid PSA system effectively addresses both metal tear and ink pick problems associated with conventional metalized film laminates.
Abstract:
This invention pertains to UV-absorbing coatings that may optionally be covered with an anti-reflective layer and that are applied to exterior-facing surfaces such as a window or other glass surface that are transparent or translucent. Such coatings are visible to various species of birds, but are generally transparent to humans. The UV absorbing coatings have a silane- or silane-derived chromophore or a combination of a silane- or siloxane-based material and a chromophore, which chromophores absorb UV light at about 300 to about 400 nm. More particularly, the silane- or siloxane-based chromophore is 2-hydroxy-4-(3-triethoxysilylpropoxy) diphenylketone or a derivative thereof.
