    Abstract: A method for building a stator assembly for a rotary electric machine includes providing a plurality of axially extending teeth spaced circumferentially from one another to define slots therebetween. Cooling structure is provided in each slot. Stator windings are wound around the teeth and the cooling structures such that each winding is at least partially disposed in each slot. The windings are electrically connected to form a plurality of phases. The teeth, the cooling structures, and the windings cooperate to form a subassembly. An outer stator core is axially slid over the subassembly to connect the teeth to the outer stator core.

    Abstract: A stator for a rotary electric machine includes a core extending along an axis and having a series of axially extending passages arranged circumferentially about the axis. A plurality of teeth are provided with each tooth including an axially extending inner surface defining a passage and a projection extending therein. Retention devices secure each tooth to the stator. Each retention device includes a resilient member having a base extending within one of the passages of the stator and an arm extending from the base and within the passage of one of the teeth. The arm including an enlarged portion for engaging the projection to pull the tooth into engagement with the core.

    Abstract: A rotary electric machine includes a stator extending along an axis and having teeth arranged about the axis. The teeth are circumferentially spaced apart by slots. Winding coils extend around the teeth and through the slots. The winding coils are electrically connected to one another to form phases. At least one of the winding coils has a first portion extending through first and second slots of the slots and including first end turns extending between the first and second slots over an axial end surface of the teeth. A second portion extends through the first and second slots and includes second end turns extending between the first and second slots over the axial end surface of the teeth. The first and second portions are connected in series at a third end turn spaced closer to the axial end surface than either the first or second end turns.
