Abstract: A precision fuel injector having an inwardly opening pressure operated valve positioned in a bore forming a valve chamber and guided for reciprocal movement to open and close the valve wherein the valve guide at the end of the valve chamber opposite the valve tip is provided with a sleeve extending into the valve chamber to provide an integral filter. The sleeve is interposed between the fuel inlet and the valve chamber and provides communication therebetween through a pair of annular clearances having a width which is one-half or less of the diameter of the discharge orifices of the injector to trap solid particles and prevent the blockage thereof. The filter construction retains the trapped particles in the flow path where the velocity of fuel flow is maximum to subject them to the repetitive high pressure hydraulic forces as sequential measured charges of fuel are delivered to the injector to hammer them against the hardened metal edge of the filter and pulverize them to render the filter self-cleaning.

Abstract: An inwardly opening pressure actuated liquid fuel injector is provided with a tubular body having a valve guide for mounting a valve for reciprocating movement toward and away from a valve seat. A coil spring biases the valve toward its seat and has a spring seat captured in the end thereof with a flat surface engaging the flat end of the valve for free relative lateral movement to avoid imposing lateral forces on the valve. A lift stop has a stem extending through the coil spring and has a close sliding fit therewith to keep the spring coaxial with the stem. The spring seat is spaced from the wall of the spring chamber to prevent contact with the wall and the end of the stem has a slight taper to provide for limited lateral movement and to resiliently bias the spring seat toward a coaxial position with the stem.

Abstract: A forged snap hook is provided with an integral base plate for attachment to a parachute harness. A resiliently biased high strength corrosion treated guard is pivoted on the hook and has a hollow crown with slotted depending sidewalls. Abstract: There is disclosed a throwaway fuel oil filter cartridge suited for vertical mounting having a base wall with three ported abutments. The upper one of the ported abutments communicates with the filter''s outlet chamber and the other pair communicates with the filter''s enlarged inlet chamber. The enlarged inlet chamber serves as a settling basin and a plenum chamber for incoming fuel, and one of the ports communicating therewith is positioned vertically below the other. The three ported abutments provide a tripod mount for the cartridge and the lower one serves as a drain for water which can be operated while the engine is running and prevents fuel line freezeup by maintaining the level of the water below the inlet passage to the filter.

Abstract: A liquid fuel injection pump for supplying precisely measured charges of fuel under high prssure, has a housing in which a fuel distributing rotor is journaled. The rotor carries a high pressure charge pump for pressurizing the charges of fuel and a pair of through bores in the housing mount a pair of shuttles which alternate in pumping measured charges of fuel into the charge pump chamber. Fuel regulated by a metering valve is delivered to a chamber at one end of each shuttle and the fuel charge so produced is then pumped into the charge pump chamber by applying hydraulic pressure to the other end of the shuttle. A ball check valve carried by the rotor isolates the shuttles from the charge pump. An axially adjustable stop at each end of each through bore limits the movement of each shuttle in each direction and the stops for each shuttle are accessible through the end of its through bore for changing the limit of movement of the shuttle in each direction independently of the other stop for the shuttle. A passage supplies fuel to a closer plunger which hydraulically seats the ball check valve and the fuel trapped between the plunger and its stop cushions the impact therebetween as the charge pump pressurizes the pressure, in the rotor.
