Abstract: The present disclosure describes various aspects of devices and methods that are directed to systems for controlling power systems. A device comprises at least one power source unit having a plurality of physical unit pins, at least one sensor to measure a characteristic of at least one power source unit, and a microcontroller. The microcontroller comprises a memory with at least virtual unit object, at least one virtual sensor object, and a set of software instructions to cause the microcontroller to control the at least power source unit via at least one switch using a three-layer control scheme.

Abstract: Images of an insect are subjected to at least a first convolutional neural network to develop feature maps based on anatomical pixels at corresponding image locations in the respective feature maps. The anatomical pixels correspond to a body part of the insect. A computer calculates an outer product of the first feature map and the second feature map to form an integrated feature map. Extracting fully connected layers from respective sets of integrated feature maps and applying the fully connected layers to a classification network for identifying the genus and the species of the insect.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a bloom engine is created that can detect the formation of both fat bloom and sugar bloom in a chocolate product. A Raman spectrometer is used to generate a first or reference spectrum of a chocolate product. Based on peaks of the spectrum known to be associated with sugar and peaks of the spectrum known to be associated with fat, a ratio of sugar to fat for the chocolate product is determined based on the reference spectrum. Later, a second spectrum is generated from the chocolate product, and a ratio of sugar to fat is similarly determined for the second spectrum. Changes in the ratios between the two samples are used to detect fat or sugar bloom. Other features of the bloom engine including removing or reducing bloom from the chocolate product using a laser associated with the spectrometer and applying a design to the chocolate product in bloom using the laser.

Abstract: A method and system for performing bone fusion and/or securing one or more bones, such as adjacent vertebra, are disclosed. The screws include a threaded tip connected to a main shaft and a threaded outer sleeve that rotates relative to the outer shaft until locked down. Independent rotation of the threaded outer sleeve relative to the threaded distal tip allows compression or distraction to modify the gap between the vertebral bodies. The screws are passed from the inferior to superior vertebra or superior to inferior, for example, through a trans-pedicular route to avoid neurological compromise. At the same time, the path of screw insertion is oriented to reach superior or inferior vertebra. An intervertebral cage of the system is configured for lateral expansion from a nearly straight configuration to form a large footprint in the disc space. The screws and cage may be combined for improved fixation with minimal invasiveness.
