Abstract: Technology for cooperative learning pain assessment may include a sensed pain classifier to determine a sensed context and a pain assessment classifier to determine an inferred pain score. Disclosed technology may determine an uncertainty score based on the sensed context and the inferred pain score. Responsive to the uncertainty score meeting a first threshold condition, a manual label for the subject data may be used to update the sensed pain classifier or the pain assessment classifier. Responsive to the uncertainty score meeting a second threshold condition, a generated label for the subject data may be used to update the sensed pain classifier or the pain assessment classifier. The inferred pain score may be provided as an assessed pain result for the subject.

Abstract: Systems and methods for automated stereology using deep learning are disclosed. The systems include an update in the form of a semi-automatic approach for ground truth preparation in 3D stacks of microscopy images (disector stacks) for generating more training data. The systems also present an exemplary disector-based MIMO framework where all the planes of a 3D disector stack are analyzed as opposed to a single focus-stacked image (EDF image) per stack. The MIMO approach avoids the costly computations of 3D deep learning-based methods by using the 3D context of cells in disector stacks; and prevents stereological bias in the previous EDF-based method due to counting profiles rather than cells and under-counting overlap-ping/occluded cells. Taken together, these improvements support the view that AI-based automatic deep learning methods can accelerate the efficiency of unbiased stereology cell counts without a loss of accuracy or precision as compared to conventional manual stereology.

Abstract: Provided is a solid precipitation reactor useful for waste-water treatment. The reactor can include a reaction chamber configured to receive feedwater and to allow particulates to at least partially precipitate from the feedwater to form an effluent, and a membrane module having at least one membrane filter configured to receive effluent from the reaction chamber and to filter suspended particulates from the effluent to produce a permeate and a concentrate. The concentrate can be reintroduced to the re-action chamber to allow additional particulates to precipitate. Systems and methods for wastewater treatment, and methods for regenerating a zeolite cation exchanger, using the solid precipitation reactor are also provided.

Abstract: A SyntheticMulti-Exposure Speckle Imaging (syMESI) methodology necessarily utilizing an optical interferometer apparatus as part of the speckle imaging system to overcome the optical detector noise that conventionally limits the reliable and accurate determination of a speckle contrast characteristic at low exposure times. The use of such methodology enabled a quantitative determination of absolute value(s) of changes of motion at the target object (such as blood flow changes in tissue) at low photon budget of less than 40 counts of average detection intensity and/or quantitative imaging of the blood flow at the object in interoperative setting with a low-cost camera sensor.
