    Abstract: A radiation treatment plan is determined by: [1] receiving a current fluence map defining a radiation dose; [2] receiving a current control-point sequence describing machine settings for a collimator associated with a radiation source; [3] determining an updated fluence map and an updated control-point sequence based on the current fluence map; [4] determining a further updated control-point sequence based on the updated control-point sequence and the updated fluence map; [5] determining a further updated fluence map based on the updated fluence map, the updated control-point sequence and the further updated control-point sequence; [6] checking if a stopping criterion is fulfilled; if so: stopping the process, and producing an output radiation treatment plan based on the further updated control-point sequence; and otherwise: setting the further updated fluence map, or zero, to the current fluence map; setting the further updated control-point sequence to the current control-point sequence; and returning to step [3].

    Abstract: It is provided a method for generating a plurality of potential treatment plans, each treatment plan specifying a distribution of radiation to a target volume, the method being performed by a treatment planning system and comprising the steps of: generating a plurality of potential treatment plans (12), for performing multi-criteria optimization (MCO), based on a set of optimization functions. At least one optimization function depends on the distribution of the product of radiation dose and linear energy transfer, LET, in a specified region of the patient, yielding a plurality of treatment plans.

    Abstract: It is provided a method for generating a plurality of treatment plans for radiation therapy, each treatment plan specifying weights for a plurality of geometrically defined fluence elements. Each weight defines an amount of radiation fluence, to thereby provide radiation dose to a target volume. The method is performed in a treatment planning system and comprises the steps of: generating a first set of treatment plans; determining a subset of the fluence elements, based on the first set of treatment plans; and generating a second set of at least two treatment plans, wherein the treatment plans only contain weights for the subset of fluence elements.

    Abstract: A method of radiotherapy treatment planning for particle-based arc treatment comprises the steps of determining (S11; S21) an initial set of candidate energy layers, performing a calculation on the initial set, determining (S13; S23), based on the outcome of said calculation, at least one additional energy layer to produce an expanded candidate layer set, wherein the at least one additional energy layer involves an energy level that has not previously been used adding (S14; S24) the at least one additional energy to the initial set, to produce an expanded candidate energy layer set optimizing (S16; S26) a radiotherapy treatment plan based on the expanded candidate layer set.
