Abstract:
Label application devices and methods of printing and applying labels are described herein. One label application device can comprise a feed component configured to deliver a sheet of label material to a position, a product identification component configured to identify a type of a product that is approaching the position, a printing component configured to print data onto the sheet of label material, the data based on the identified type of product, a stripping component configured to remove a liner portion of the sheet of label material from a label portion of the sheet, and an applicator component configured to apply the label portion to the product.
Abstract:
Methods of calibrating a fluid analyzer for use in a wellbore are described. An example method of generating calibration data for a fluid analyzer for use in a downhole tool involves lowering a downhole tool including a fluid analyzer to a location in a wellbore, measuring, via the fluid analyzer, a characteristic value of a calibration fluid or a vacuum while the fluid analyzer is at the location, obtaining an expected characteristic value for the calibration fluid or the vacuum at the location, and comparing the measured characteristic value to the expected characteristic value to generate a calibration value for the fluid.
Abstract:
A method detects proper connection of an endoscope to an endoscope processor by measuring pressure pulses applied to the connection point. The method can include measuring for the pressure pulses at a second connection point on the endoscope processor and measuring for a beat frequency produced variations in the frequency of pressure pulses input at each connection point. The method can also include looking for echoes of the pressure pulsations from physical structures within a lumen of the endoscope connected to the connection point.
Abstract:
A hoop stress relief mechanism is disclosed for use on a rotary body to relieve stress caused by both thermal and centrifugal forces. The mechanism may consist of a J-shaped slot cut from the outer rim of the rotary body a distance inwardly toward the axis of rotation, the slot having a curve in its inward end that curves back towards the outer rim. The J-shaped slot may extend through the rotary body to join its two faces. The J-shaped slot may be fabricated by an electric discharge wire machine. The electric discharge wire machine may make multiple passes in order to smooth the bottom surface of the curved slot portion.
Abstract:
Increasing the diameter of cylinder bores in a cylinder block requires a longer and heavier cylinder block to accommodate the larger bores. If the cylinder block is not lengthened it is difficult to accommodate the water jacket between the outermost cylinder bore and the cylinder block end wall. The cylinder block of the present invention has an upper part including a number of cylinder bores surrounded by a water jacket. The upper part also has first and second end walls which are generally co-planar with first and second end walls of a lower part of the block, but include projecting portions adjacent the top deck. The projecting portions may curve outwardly from the first and second end walls and generally follow the curvature of the two outermost cylinder bores on the block. By providing the projecting portions on the first and second end walls, a minimum width of water jacket can be accommodated without significantly increasing the length and overall size of the block.
Abstract:
A device comprises an electric field applying assembly adapted to generate an electric field having a discrete electric field profile; a conducting volume and an electrical interface region provided between the conducting volume and the electric field applying assembly such that the discrete electric field is applied to the material by the electric field applying assembly at a location spaced from the conducting volume, wherein the electrical interface region comprises at least an ionically conductive material arranged adjacent to an in contact with the conducting volume; such that the discrete electric field applied by the electric field applying assembly is smoothed by the electrical interface region so that the electric field profile established within the conducting volume is substantially continuous.
Abstract:
A mechanism that allows for precise motion of the optics of an interferometer is comprised by two or more diaphragm flexures having high lateral stiffness, creating a superior performing Michelson interferometer. When coupled with precise precision control of a mirror surface and a reference laser, the above creates a superior performing Fourier transform spectrometer.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a system and method for detecting the spectra of unknown components in the spectrum of a mixture and/or for verifying the presence of suspected components in the spectrum of a mixture. The system and method involves using the algorithm to perform a regression that includes the target and known spectra in a mixture, calculating a residual where the coefficient for the target spectrum is zero, called the extracted spectrum, and comparing the extracted spectrum and the target spectrum. The system and method may be used with chemometrics algorithms, multiple known spectra, and/or multiple target spectra.

Abstract:
A method measures a property of a germicidal solution in an endoscope processor spectroscopically by placing a quantity of the solution into a cuvette and passing a light therethrough. A reservoir receives a quantity of the solution and bubbles are filtered out via a cross-flow filter prior to putting a sample therefrom into the cuvette for measuring.
