    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane, comprising the steps of: (a) subjecting a stream comprising ethane to oxidative dehydrogenation conditions; (b) removing water from at least part of the effluent resulting from step (a); (c) optionally removing unconverted oxygen and/or carbon monoxide and/or ycetylene from at least part of the stream comprising ethylene, unconverted ethane, carbon dioxide, optionally unconverted oxygen, optionally carbon monoxide and optionally acetylene resulting from step (b); (d) removing ethylene from at least part of the stream comprising ethylene, unconverted ethane and carbon dioxide resulting from step (b) or (c) by a complexation separation method; (e) partially and selectively removing carbon dioxide from at least part of the stream comprising unconverted ethane and carbon dioxide resulting from step (d); (f) recycling at least part of the stream comprising unconverted ethane and carbon dioxide resulting from step (e) to step (a).

    Abstract: Processes and associated reaction systems for the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethane are provided. In particular, a process is provided that comprises supplying a feed gas comprising ethane and oxygen to a multitubular fixed-bed reactor, allowing the ethane and oxygen to react in the presence of an oxidative dehydrogenation catalyst to yield a reactor effluent comprising ethylene; supplying a coolant to an upstream region of an interior shell space of the reactor in a flow pattern that is counter-current with the flow of the feed gas; and withdrawing the coolant from the upstream region and supplying at least a portion of the coolant withdrawn from the upstream region to the downstream region in a flow pattern that is co-current with the flow of the feed gas.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a Process for the production of ethylene oxide, comprising the steps of: (a) producing ethylene by subjecting a stream comprising ethane to oxidative dehydrogenation conditions, resulting in a stream comprising ethylene, ethane, water and acetic acid; (b) separating at least part of the stream resulting from step (a) into a stream comprising ethylene and ethane and a stream comprising water and acetic acid; (c) producing ethylene oxide by subjecting ethylene and ethane from the stream comprising ethylene and ethane resulting from step (b) to oxidation conditions, resulting in a stream comprising ethylene oxide, ethylene, ethane and water; (d) separating at least part of the stream resulting from step (c) into a stream comprising ethylene and ethane and a stream comprising ethylene oxide and water; (e) recycling ethylene and ethane from the stream comprising ethylene and ethane resulting from step (d) to step (a), wherein carbon dioxide is produced in steps (a) and (c) and is removed in an additional step between steps (b) and (c) and/or between steps (d) and (e).
