Abstract: Disclosed is a monitoring system for determining the efficacy of at least one compression device for use in compression therapy. The monitoring system comprises at least one pressure sensor for measuring a pressure exerted onto a body part of a user by the compression device and at least one evaluation unit which is connectable to the pressure sensor. The evaluation unit is adapted to acquire at least one resting pressure prest with the user being in a resting position. The evaluation unit is further adapted to determine at least one extended standing pressure pstanding, extended with the user being in a standing position, by using the following procedure: the evaluation unit acquires a measurement curve of pressure values after a position change of the user into the standing position and a slope of the measurement curve is automatically compared to at least one endpoint threshold value and, depending on a result of the comparison, an endpoint of a change in the measurement curve induced by the position change is automatically detected, and a pressure value acquired at or after the endpoint is assigned to the extended standing pressure pstanding, extended.

Abstract: A feedback device for measuring balance related information, and for producing a stimulation of the skin that encodes that information in a way that is useful to the wearer of the device. At least one sensor detects balance information and transmits at least one balance information signal to a signal processing subsystem. The signal processing subsystem converts the received balance information signal into at least one stimulation control signal. The signal processing subsystem then transmits the stimulation control signal to at least one stimulator, which provides stimulation to a wearer of the device reflecting the stimulation control signal received from the signal processing subsystem.

Abstract: A medical monitoring and treatment device that includes a therapy delivery interface, a plurality of therapy electrodes coupled to the therapy delivery interface, a plurality of electrocardiogram sensing electrodes to sense electrocardiogram signals of a patient, a sensor interface to receive the electrocardiogram signals and digitize the electrocardiogram signals, and at least one processor coupled to the sensor interface and the therapy delivery interface to analyze the digitized electrocardiogram signals, to detect a cardiac arrhythmia based on the digitized electrocardiogram signals, and to control the therapy delivery interface to apply electrical therapy to the patient based upon the detected cardiac arrhythmia. The at least one processor is further configured to analyze a frequency domain transform of the digitized electrocardiogram signals, to determine a metric indicative of a metabolic state of a heart of the patient, and to accelerate or delay application of the electrical therapy based upon the metric.

Abstract: An orthosis includes a first portion and a second portion configured to attach on opposite sides of a joint. An actuator is configured to apply a force between the first and second portions. The actuator includes a first spool and a second spool rotatably mounted to the first portion. An output pulley is mounted to the second portion. A belt has a first end wrapped around the first spool, a second end wrapped around the second spool, and a mid-portion wrapped around the output pulley. The actuator is configured to rotate the first and second spools. The rotation of the first spool pulls the belt a given length, and the rotation of the second spool feeds the belt less than the given length, so as to pull the output pulley towards the first portion to pull the second portion towards the first portion.

Abstract: A safety device for a walker includes a distance measuring sensor for determining whether a user is at too far or too close distances relative to the front side of the walker. The sensor provides data to a CPU processor indicative of such events. The processor includes logic which analyzes such data and provides audial, visual and/or tactile stimuli to the user warning the user that he/she is at undesirable distances relative to the walker. The process logic can be modified so as to vary the type and/or frequency of warnings given to the user.
