Abstract:
Lubricating oil compositions, formulated to a preselected viscosity grade that demonstrate stay-in-grade capability in a diesel injector shear stability test, are provided. The compositions comprise a major amount of a base oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor amount of (i) a viscosity modifier (VM) or mixtures thereof having a low shear stability index (SSI) and (ii) a VM or mixtures thereof having an SSI greater than that of the VM from (i).
Abstract:
Methods are provided for producing lubricant base oils from petrolatum. After solvent dewaxing of a brightstock raffinate to form a brightstock base oil, petrolatum is generated as a side product. The petrolatum can be hydroprocessed to form base oils in high yield. The base oils formed from hydroprocessing of petrolatum have an unexpected pour point relationship. For a typical lubricant oil feedstock, the pour point of the base oils generated from the feedstock increases with the viscosity of the base oil. By contrast, lubricant base oils formed from hydroprocessing of petrolatum have a relatively flat pour point relationship, and some of the higher viscosity base oils unexpectedly have lower pour points than lower viscosity base oils generated from the same petrolatum feed. The base oils from petrolatum are also unusual in yielding both high viscosity and high viscosity index and can be generated while maintaining a high yield.
Abstract:
The refrigerating machine oil of the invention includes an ester of a polyhydric alcohol and a fatty acid, wherein the molar ratio of C4-C6 fatty acid and C7-C9 branched fatty acid in the fatty acid is between 15:85 and 90:10, the C4-C6 fatty acid includes 2-methylpropanoic acid, and the ratio of the total C4-C6 fatty acid and C7-C9 branched fatty acid in the total fatty acids composing the ester is at least 20 mol %. The working fluid composition for a refrigerating machine according to the invention comprises the refrigerating machine oil, a difluoromethane refrigerant and/or an unsaturated fluorinated hydrocarbon refrigerant.
Abstract:
A low-ash, high-alkalinity-value lubricating oil additive is prepared by chemically combining a nitrogen-containing compound, a basically reacting metallic compound, a suspending agent therefor, and a chalcogen compound.
