Abstract: According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first area, second area, liquid crystal layer, and a plurality of pixels. Each subpixel includes an opening area including a first opening area and a second opening area. The pixels include a first pixel positioned in the first area and a second pixel positioned over a boundary of the first area and the second area. The opening area of the second pixel is smaller than the opening area of the first pixel when opening areas of subpixels of same color are compared. An each imaginary line showing the boundary of the first opening area and the second opening area is a same straight line.

Abstract: A display device includes a first display unit and a second display unit. The first display unit emits a red light having a first output spectrum corresponding to a highest gray level of the display device. The second display unit emits a blue light having a second output spectrum corresponding to the highest gray level of the display device. An intensity integral of the first output spectrum within a range from 380 nm to 780 nm is defined as a first intensity integral, an intensity integral of the second output spectrum within a range from 511 nm to 597 nm is defined as a second intensity integral, and a ratio of the second intensity integral to the first intensity integral is greater than 0% and less than or equal to 29.0%.

The liquid crystal display device provides color display using a field sequential driving system where each frame period includes subframe periods and includes: a liquid crystal display panel; a light source that irradiates the liquid crystal display panel with lights of multiple colors; and a controller that drives the light source to time-divisionally irradiate the liquid crystal display panel with the lights of multiple colors. The liquid crystal display panel includes, sequentially in the following order: a first substrate including pixel electrodes; a first alignment film; a liquid crystal layer; a second alignment film; and a second substrate including a common electrode.

Abstract: A display device includes a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix on a substrate along a first direction and a second direction intersecting the first direction. Each of the plurality of pixels includes a transistor, a first transparent electrode located over the transistor and electrically connected to the transistor, a second transparent electrode located over the first transparent electrode and electrically connected to the first transparent electrode via an opening, an insulating layer located over the second transparent electrode, a third transparent electrode located over the insulating layer; and a metal layer in contact with the third transparent electrode. The opening overlaps a gate electrode of the transistor. At least a part of the metal layer is provided in the opening and overlaps the gate electrode. The metal layer extends along the first direction and is commonly provided in the pixels arranged in the first direction.

Abstract: A display panel and a display device are disclosed. The display panel includes upper and lower substrates, a liquid crystal layer, a first electrode, and a second electrode. The second electrode includes at least a stem electrode and a plurality of branch electrodes. A plurality of subpixel areas are provided, and each of the subpixel areas is divided into at least four liquid crystal domains by the stem electrode. The subpixel area in corresponding one of the liquid crystal domains is further divided to form a partition-like structure to increase number of liquid crystal domains, so that light transmittance and display quality can be improved.

Abstract: A multi-layer display system may include a plurality of display panels arranged in an overlapping manner, a backlight configured to provide light to the plurality of display panels, and a processing system. Each of the display panels includes an array of pixels, each pixel including active red (R), active green (G), and active blue (B) sub-pixels. The pixels in one or more display panels may further include passive white (W) sub-pixels. The multi-layer display may further comprise a pair of crossed polarized layers. The processing system may be configured to control simultaneous display of different content on the plurality of display panels.
