Abstract: A method includes determining, based on a first packet error rate (PER) associated with a first communication data rate of data sent from a first electronic device to a second electronic device, a predicted second PER associated with a second communication data rate by increasing a value of the predicted second PER based on a first signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) sensitivity associated with the first communication data rate being less than a second SNR sensitivity associated with the second communication data rate or by decreasing the value of the predicted second PER based on the first SNR sensitivity being greater than the second SNR sensitivity. The method further includes selecting a communication data rate for communication from the first electronic device to the second electronic device based at least in part on the first PER and the predicted second PER.

Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) communication are discussed. An example Evolved NodeB (eNB) includes a memory, a processor, and a transmitter circuit. The processor evaluates an orthogonal multiple access (OMA) metric and a NOMA metric, generates a protocol instruction that indicates an OMA transmission or a NOMA transmission based on the metrics, and determines a first modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for a first UE and a second MCS for a second UE. The transmitter circuit receives the protocol instruction and transmits a first data signal and a first downlink control information (DCI) message associated with the first UE, and a second data signal and a second DCI message associated with the second UE. When the protocol instruction indicates NOMA transmission, the data signals are power multiplexed, the DCI messages indicate the data signals are transmitted via NOMA, and the first DCI message indicates the second MCS.

Abstract: A method and system are provided for scheduling data transmission in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. The MIMO system may comprise at least one MIMO transmitter and at least one MIMO receiver. Feedback from one or more receivers may be used by a transmitter to improve quality, capacity, and scheduling in MIMO communication systems. The method may include generating or receiving information pertaining to a MIMO channel metric and information pertaining to a Channel Quality Indicator (CQI) in respect of a transmitted signal; and sending a next transmission to a receiver using a MIMO mode selected in accordance with the information pertaining to the MIMO channel metric, and an adaptive coding and modulation selected in accordance with the information pertaining to the CQI.

Abstract: Techniques for modifying a transmission rate of a device having a plurality of transmission rate options are described herein. The techniques include a method comprising receiving data from a sensor indicating movement of an electronic device, the electronic device having a plurality of transmission rate options. Fail ratio metrics are gathered. The fail ratio metrics indicate a ratio of failed transmissions to successful transmissions for rate option during device movement. The method includes determining whether a given rate option has a fail ratio above a predetermined threshold; and, if so, disabling the given rate option while the device is moving.
