Abstract: The invention describes an image reading device having a housing, a transparent panel, an image sensor, a carriage, and an electric cable. The housing has a first, second, and third surface. The transparent panel defines a portion of the first surface. The image sensor extends in a first direction, and is mounted to the carriage and optically reads a document through the transparent panel while the carriage reciprocates in a second direction. The electric cable is electrically connected to the image sensor, and includes a band surface portion having a band surface and extending in a third direction intersecting the first and second direction. The electric cable also has a first end portion attached to the carriage; and a second end portion attached to the second surface. At least a portion of the electric cable is twisted such that the band surface and the third surface are not parallel.

Abstract: An apparatus for scanning pages of bound materials is disclosed. The apparatus includes a base with a platform configured to support bound materials laid open. A depressor with a complimentary surface is provided to depress pages of the bound material flat against the platform of the base. The depressor has a transparent portion allowing the pages of the bound material to be viewed therethrough. The depressor is removable from the base. A camera assembly is connected to and supported over the depressor. At least one camera attached to the camera assembly and aimed towards the transparent portion of the depressor. The camera is configured to capture a digital image of at least one page of the bound material through the transparent portion of the depressor when the depressor is placed over a bound material that is laid open in the platform of the base.

Abstract: A scanning device scans both sides of a document. The document is fed between a first image sensor module and a second image sensor module. The second image sensor module is moved with respect to the first image sensor module so that a separation distance between the second image sensor module and the first image sensor module is based on a thickness of the document. A first side of the document is scanned using a first scan line located in the first image sensor module. A second side of the document is scanned using a second scan line located in the second image sensor module. When the document is fed between the first image sensor module and the second image sensor module, the document does not reach the first scan line and the second scan line simultaneously.

Abstract: A paper pressing device disposed on one side of a paper track of a sheet feed scanner, corresponding to a scanning module on the other side of the paper track is provided. The paper pressing device includes two pivot seats, a pressing block, and an elastic element. The two pivot seats are respectively disposed at two lateral edges of the paper track. The pressing block is located across and above the paper track, and is pivotally disposed between the two pivot seats for being rotated and slid. The elastic element, pressing against the pressing block, is used to provide a normal force to push the pressing block to move linearly and rotate. By adjusting the position and angle of the pressing block, the paper is flattened onto the scanning module.
