Abstract:
An appliance control system of the present invention comprises an appliance and a mobile computing device configured for controlling the appliance by at least one of determining an available content for the appliance, selecting the content used by the appliance, and applying user preferences to the appliance. A method of controlling an appliance of the present invention comprises establishing a wireless communication link between an appliance and a mobile computing device, and controlling the appliance with the mobile computing device includes at least one of determining an available content for the appliance, selecting the content used by the appliance, and applying user preferences to the appliance.
Abstract:
A novel apparatus and method for controlling electronic devices, comprises a radio frequency (RF) transmitter and receiver for communication between the apparatus and a user, a central processing unit (CPU) executing software for handling the conversion of an RF signal from the user into a two dimensional location (an X, Y coordinate system) and conversion into a series of remote control commands for transmission to a series of devices equipped for remote control is provided by which a user can control the electronic devices of an electronic system, for example a home entertainment system (which might include, by way of example, a television, a DSS or satellite receiver, a CD player, a video recorder, a video disc player, a radio tuner, an amplifier, a tape deck, an audio video preamplifier or a combination of one or more of the foregoing). The CPU also executes software which digitizes real time video and combines it with computer graphics for display.
Abstract:
A method for interfacing a gateway with a plurality of electronic devices provided in a home networking environment includes establishing a communications link between the gateway and an intermediate device as well as providing input and output features at the intermediate device. A gateway in accordance with the disclosed technology may, for example, correspond to a cable modem, DSL interface, or other wireless home gateway that interfaces multiple data lines in a home networking environment. The remote intermediate device is outfitted with at least one wireless transmitter/receiver for communicating with a gateway and optionally with the networked electronic devices or appliances. Input features include a keypad with multiple user input buttons which may be actuated by a user's single hand when the remote device is held in the same single hand. Output features include a visual display such as an LCD matrix display. The visual display may be outfitted with touchscreen capabilities providing such output feature with an ability to dually function as an input feature. Additional functional components of the remote intermediate device include a processor and associated operating system, volatile and nonvolatile memory modules, an infrared transmitter/receiver, audio element, and smart battery with a recharging interface.
Abstract:
A remote operating system capable of operating a given home electric appliance by simple operation from a portable telephone is disclosed. A service equipment connected to an internet and a public network provides a home page using the function of a portable telephone to browse the internet home pages. An instruction to operate the home electric appliance is given by way of the home page using the portable telephone. Thus, an operating instruction is given through the public network to a remote operation adaptor installed in a home to control the home electric appliance.
Abstract:
A system for wireless remote control of a gateway and ordering or invocation of services provided by a headend. The remote control includes a video display and user input device or keyboard and can decompress and display compressed streaming video in some embodiments. Some species of the remote control can act as web browsers, appliance control, TIVO function control, an IP telephony telephone, a cellular telephone and/or an MP3 player. In some embodiments, the gateway and/or headend can implement TIVO-like functions under control from a wireless remote of custom design or implemented on a Personal Digital Assistant.
Abstract:
A two-way wireless communications system for permitting the control, monitoring and collection of data from electrical apparatus includes a host computer, control and monitoring units remotely located from the host computer, and subscriber software for establishing communication protocol with each unit. The host computer includes a customer interface gateway which handles communications from the subscriber software to the host system, a wireless service gateway which handles all communications with the remotely located units, and a product data processor for processing data obtained from either a customer via the subscriber software or a particular remote unit. The subscriber software permits customers to have desktop control of their electrical apparatus associated with a remote unit. Each remote unit contains a motherhood, power supply, and modem. Each unit is capable of real-time monitoring and control of the electrical apparatus associated with the unit.
Abstract:
A universal remote control system with device activated set up wherein the device to be controlled such as a TV, VCR or other consumer electronic product, and the associated remote control unit are pre-programmed and adapted to automatically reconfigure the remote control unit to communicate with a device to be controlled as soon as said device is connected to its power source.
Abstract:
A control system may comprise a plurality of audio output devices (e.g., controllable speakers), and a remote control device having at least one button for selecting a preset, where the preset defines different commands for at least two of the audio output devices. The at least two audio output devices may be configured to be controlled according to the different commands (e.g., starting, pausing, or stopping playback, adjusting volume, etc.) in response to an actuation of the button of the remote control device. The control system may also comprise a load control device, such as a dimmer configured to control an intensity of a lighting load to a predetermined intensity in response to the actuation of the button of the remote control device to select the preset. The audio output device may be configured to play a feedback signal indicating an operational characteristic of the dimmer.
Abstract:
Electronic systems are provided for secure actuation of a remote device such as a moveable barrier operator. The systems address the “man in the middle” problem of persons intercepting and duplicating radio frequency signals from a control device by introducing timing parameters into a bidirectional communication sequence between at least two devices.
Abstract:
This HEMS (200) is provided with a control unit (230) that, if an operation directive does not go through a server (600) provided externally to a customer's home (10), identifies said operation directive as having come from within the customer's home, and if the operation directive does go through the server (600) provided externally to the customer's home (10), identifies the operation directive as having come from outside the customer's home.
