Abstract:
A curable polymer composition for use in providing a dimensionally stable coating comprises a semi-interpenetrating polymer network. The semi-interpenetrating polymer network includes a reactive polymer component, cross-linking agent, and non-reactive polymer component. The non-reactive polymer component has a molecular weight of about 7,000-30,000, and preferably about 15,000. In preferred embodiments, the reactive polymer has a molecular weight of about 30,000-200,000, and preferably about 40,000-60,000. Spacecoat compositions made with formulations described, exhibit good long-term stability, and resistance to failure upon embossing of a substrate to which the retroreflective sheeting is applied.
Abstract:
A coating blend composition is a physical admixture of an adhesion promoter resin and a coating material resin. The blend can be cured by one or more curing agents existing within either the adhesion promoter resin, the coating material resin, or both. The utilization of such a blend eliminates the need for priming a substrate such as a rubber, or a thermoplastic or a thermoset polyolefin. The adhesion promoter resin is a urethane composition containing a blocked polyurethane prepolymer whereas the coating material resin can generally be any compound which has a functional or cosmetic purpose such as a different type of blocked polyurethane, and is generally utilized in a major amount. A particular application of the coating blend compositions of the present invention is to a glass run channel made from, for example, EPDM, as in an automotive door.
Abstract:
Novel composite resinous film comprising a continuous phase of at least one resin and a discontinuous phase of microdomains which are aggregates of particles of at least one insoluble resin and are 0.03 to 10 microns in size, is provided. The film can exhibit the most desirous properties of the respective, constituent resinous materials and are useful in various fields including the paint industry.
Abstract:
A water based antistatic coating composition comprising:(a) at least one water soluble antistatic agent which is acceptable for food packaging polymer films;(b) at least one water soluble or water dispersible film-forming polymer; and,(c) a solution or dispersion-forming amount of water. When applied to a polymer film substrate, the foregoing antistatic coating composition forms, upon drying, and adherent antistatic coating.

Abstract:
The invention relates to a heat-hardenable binder mixture which comprises(A) an organic nonacidic resin having a hydroxyl group content of at least 0.2 equivalent in 100 g of resin and having a molecular weight of at least 850, and(B) a crosslinking agent based on an organic compound which contains at least 2 carbalkoxymethyl ester groups per molecule.
Abstract:
A resinous emulsion is prepared by copolymerizing .alpha.,.beta.-ethylenically unsaturated monomers and a crosslinking monomer which is at least difunctional, in an aqueous medium in the presence of a resin having an amphoionic group of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents substituted or unsubstituted C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alkylene or phenylene and Y is --COOH or --SO.sub.3 H, or in the presence of a resin having the above said amphoionic group and a polymerizable .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated bonding. The thus obtained emulsion is useful for the obtainment of crosslinked polymer microparticles to be incorporated in a high solid coating composition or for the preparation of aqueous coating composition because of having contained no harmful emulsifier or surfactant.
Abstract:
The use of 2,2,6,6-tetraalkylpiperidine compounds or their acid addition salts or complexes with metal compounds, if desired together with further stabilizers, for stabilizing two-layer uni-lacquer coatings based on thermocrosslinkable acrylic, alkyd or polyester resins, which if desired can be crosslinked with melamine/formaldehyde resins, epoxide resins or polyisocyanates, against the action of light, humidity and oxygen. The stabilization indicated in this specification is particularly suitable for lacquer coatings on cars.
