Abstract:
A physiological monitor device includes a central processing unit (CPU) that is configured to control operation of the device, a display screen, and one or more computer readable data storage media storing software instructions that, when executed by the CPU, cause the device to: create or modify a patient profile, select a patient test, store one or more test parameters selected or entered for the patient test, store one or more thresholds selected or entered for at least one of the test parameters, store one or more instructions for the patient, start the test, display test results while the test is in progress, determine whether any of the test parameters exceed limits set by the one or more thresholds, take one or more actions when it is determined that one or more of the test parameters exceed the limits set by the one or more thresholds, provide a summary and analysis of the test results, and send the test results to a computing device.
Abstract:
A medical instrument including a probe adapted to be inserted into an orifice of an animal's body. The instrument includes an emitter of electromagnetic radiation that is sensed by a sensor mounted on the probe. The sensor can then determine, by variations in the amount of radiation received from the emitter, whether a probe cover is mounted over the probe. A sensor can also be used to determine whether the walls of the body orifice block the radiation received from the emitter, thereby indicating position of the sensor, and thus, the probe within the orifice. A special probe cover is disclosed, and methods of using the medical instrument are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A thermometer includes one or more temperature sensors mounted on a housing. The one or more temperature sensors determine a temperature of at least one measurement site without contact. The non-contact thermometer displays an indicator to assist alignment of the one or more temperature sensors with the at least one measurement site, receives at least one measurement reading from the at least one measurement site, determines a temperature based on the at least one measurement reading, and displays the temperature on a display unit.
Abstract:
A method of determining a temperature of a patient includes measuring a first temperature of the patient with a temperature device, and measuring a second temperature of an environment with the temperature device. The method includes determining if a change in the ambient temperature exceeds a threshold. If the change does exceed the threshold, the method also includes applying a correction factor to the first temperature of the patient to account for the change in ambient temperature.
Abstract:
An example method performed by a vision screening device includes receiving, from an external medium, a signal and identifying a vision test associated with the external medium based on the signal. The vision screening device receives feedback characterizing the vision test from a subject. In addition, the vision screening device determines whether the subject is suspected to have an ocular condition based on the feedback based on the vision test.
Abstract:
A protective cover for an insertion probe of a medical instrument. The cover contains a flexible tubular body that compliments the probe geometry and a radially disposed flange that surrounds the proximal end of the body. A series of snap-on fasteners removably connect the cover to the instrument. A camming surface is located on the outer face of the flange which coacts with a cam follower that is movably mounted upon the instrument to flex the cover sufficiently to open the fastener and release the cover from the instrument and move the cover axially toward the distal end of the tip.
Abstract:
Methods and systems implement a pain assessment regularizing system to autonomously observe pained expressions and physiological measurements of a patient, in order to systematically collect data inputs which may be converted to pain assessment factors. The pain assessment regularizing system, by collecting this data, may combine it with clinical appraisals of pain intensity and patient self-reporting of pain intensity, weighing each factor appropriately in a manner sensitive to the progression of a patient care program, so as to lessen confounding effects of subjective pain assessment. The pain assessment regularizing system may generate a time series of regularized pain assessment factors, and further forecast a regularized pain assessment trend. A clinician may further operate the pain assessment regularizing system to review a visualization of both the time series and the forecast, providing the clinician with rigorously sampled and analytically predicted data which cannot be derived through manual and mental efforts.
Abstract:
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, detecting, by a substance delivery system coupled to a body part of an individual, an input signal not associated with a biological measurement of the individual, determining from the input signal, by the substance delivery system, whether delivering a dosage of a substance stored in the substance delivery system is needed and conforms to a dosage policy, and responsive to determining from the input signal that delivery of the dosage of the substance is needed and conforms to the dosage policy, initiating, by the substance delivery system, delivery of the dosage of the substance to the body part of the individual. Other embodiments are disclosed.

Abstract:
Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system for receiving sensor data associated with a monitored individual, generating from the sensor data an activity profile of the monitored individual, generating comparison data by comparing the activity profile of the monitored individual to a target activity profile, detecting from the comparison data, an activity of the one or more of activities performed by the monitored individual that can adversely affect a biological condition of the monitored individual, and submitting a notification to equipment utilized by an advisor of the monitored individual. Other embodiments are disclosed.
