Abstract:
A coating apparatus includes: a slot die configured to apply coating solution on a support by discharging the coating solution from a tip of a slot and forming a coating solution bead in a clearance between the tip of the slot and the support; a pipe through which the coating solution is fed to a pocket of the slot die; an orifice formed in the pipe at a position nearer a circumference of a circular cross section in a radial direction of the pipe in relation to a center of the circular cross section; a forward tapered inlet channel which is formed at an entrance side of the orifice in the pipe and whose aperture narrows to the orifice; a rearward tapered outlet channel which is formed at an exit side of the orifice in the pipe and whose aperture grows toward a downstream.
Abstract:
A beam construction, particularly a so-called doctor beam, for use mainly in pulp and paper mills to carry blade holders (7) intended to hold doctor blades. The beam (1) is a composite-construction hollow beam, which also includes at least one composite construction pre-tensioning rod (9, 10, 12). The construction has an essentially triangular cross-section.
Abstract:
A support beam for a long functional unit, specifically in a paper and/or coating machine, including a long hollow body having a round or polygonal cross section and manufactured from a fiber reinforced material which was produced in a winding process, whereby the invention provides that the fiber reinforced material is one having a modulus of elasticity of >100 Gpa, and a heat expansion of ≦2×10−6 1/° K in its longitudinal direction, as well as a fiber orientation whereby a first fiber content of 70% to 90% is approximately parallel to the longitudinal direction and a remaining second fiber content is aligned in the circumferential direction.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a holder for a cradle of a coating bar or for a coating blade in a coating unit and a method for securing the cradle of the coating bar or the coating blade in a coating device. The coating bar or blade are arranged to spread and smooth a size film or a corresponding layer of coating agent onto a face of a moving base to be coated by loading the coating bar or blade against the moving base. The moving base may be a roll of a size press or the web passed over a back-up roll. The cradle of the coating bar or the coating blade is mounted in a holder arranged in an application beam transverse to the machine direction. A journalling duct transverse to the machine direction is formed in the frame of the holder. An oblong member is arranged rotatably in the journalling duct and comprises a cam-like projection of eccentric section. The member can be rotated for the purpose of fixing the cradle of the coating bar or the coating blade in its place. In this position, the cam-like projection rests against a rear face of the cradle of the coating bar or of the coating blade and secures the cradle or coating blade against a support provided on the application beam.
Abstract:
A spreading device for the coating of moving material webs, especially paper or cardboard includes a clamping mechanism adapted to alternatively hold a doctor rod support bed or a coating blade, a pressing tube for pressing a doctor rod mounted on the doctor rod support bed onto a counter roll or a material web guided by a counter roll, and a profile strip having a tip portion adapted to press against a coating blade, the profile strip movable in a direction transverse to the counter roll by a displacement device. A plane defined by a pressing force through a contact region of the pressing tube and the doctor rod support bed and a plane defined by a pressing force through a contact region of the profile strip and the coating blade are disposed transversely with respect to a length of the counter roll and are either parallel or disposed at an acute angle to one another.
Abstract:
A fountain type web coating applicator and method wherein flow of coating material from source to a doctor blade coating nip with the continuously travelling web is subjected to a plurality of successive pressure drops so that coating material reaches the coating nip uniformly throughout the extent of the doctor blade edge. One of the pressure drops is through a multi-port pressure drop device and another pressure drop is through a slit orifice pressure drop device. A novel arrangement for easy replacement clamping of the doctor blade is provided. A doctor blade thruster is adjustable up and down along the blade relative to the upper coating nip edge of the blade.
Abstract:
A system for coating of a donor material onto a laser radiation transparent substrate, the system including a donor material applicator, applying donor material to the laser radiation transparent substrate, a multi-pass precise donor material thickness determiner for providing a desired thickness of the donor material on the laser radiation transparent substrate and including a linearly displaceable blade support, a layer thickness uniformizing blade lockably pivotably mounted onto the linearly displaceable blade support about a pivot axis, the blade having a straight edge and a blade position maintainer operative for maintaining the straight edge at a desired separation distance from the laser radiation transparent substrate, the separation distance being uniform along the straight edge of the layer thickness uniformizing blade.
Abstract:
A blade attachment tool includes a first support member supported by a pressing support portion supporting a blade formed of an elastic member configured to wipe/scrape liquid/solids spreading on an abutment surface by being pressed against the abutment surface and being long in one direction such that the blade is pressed against the abutment surface with a predetermined pressing force, a second support member supported to swing about a swing shaft extending in a longitudinal direction of the blade with respect to the first support member and configured such that a base end side of the blade is attached thereto, and an energizing member configured to apply a reaction force to a friction force that causes the second support member to swing about the swing shaft with respect to the first support member when the blade is pressed against the abutment surface to slide relatively to the abutment surface.
Abstract:
A device for applying a free-flowing medium to a continuously conveyed web, wherein the medium can be transferred to the web by a continuously rotating transfer (gravure) roll. An application head is provided in order to transfer the free-flowing medium to the circumference of the gravure roll. The application head includes a chamber which is open toward the circumference of the gravure roll and has an inlet and an outlet for the medium to be applied. The front outer face, in the direction of rotation, of the chamber is delimited by a front doctor blade and the rear outer face, in the direction of rotation, is delimited by a rear doctor blade. Both doctor blades are seated against the circumference of the gravure roll. The front doctor blade can be pressed against the circumference of the gravure roll by a pressing body with an adjustable pressing force.
