Abstract:
Disclosed is a lubricating composition for hot-rolling steel, which comprises a base oil or base grease and a heat-insulating agent. Especially, (A) an inorganic compound which is melted by an absorption of heat at a temperature lower than 1200.degree. C. and (B) an inorganic powder which is not melted or decomposed at a temperature lower than 1200.degree. C. and has a heat conductivity lower than 0.01 cal/cm.s. .degree.C. at room temperature and a friction coefficient smaller than 0.7 are incorporated in specific amounts singly or in combination in the composition. This lubricating composition has an excellent heat-insulating effect and effectively prevents the thermal crown of a work roll.

Abstract:
A description is given of colloidal sulphur products, their preparation and their use as additives in lubricating oils. These products result from the reaction on a superbasic detergent additive, optionally modified by reaction with a boron derivative, of a "small size" sulphur carboxylic acid complying with the general formulaX--R.sup.1 --Sx--R.sup.3 --Sy--R.sup.2 --COOHin which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent a divalent hydrocarbon radical, R.sup.3 represents a single bond or a divalent hydrocarbon radical, X represents a hydrogen atom or a carboxylic group and x and y are in each case a mean value from 1 to 4 when R.sup.3 is a hydrocarbon radical and the sum x plus y is a mean value from 1 to 4 when R.sup.3 represents a single bond. Apart from their detergent properties, these products have high extreme pressure and antiwear properties, as well as an improved thermal stability and a satisfactory corrosivity with respect to copper. They are particularly suitable for use in engine oils, gear oils, hydraulic fluids and metal working oils.
Abstract:
A squeeze casting powdery mold releasing agent according to this invention consists of a granulated or powdery mixture of a lubricant, an organic polymer and a metal soap; wherein the lubricant is coated with the organic polymer or the metal soap. Therefore, the mold releasing agent allows productions of castings of high quality, in a squeeze casting work, with good workability and without worsening environmental situations.
Abstract:
A method for treating the phosphate sludge waste from phosphate conversion baths used in the metal forming and metal working industry is described whereby the phosphate sludge is completely converted into a lubricant additive which can be used in lubricant formulations for the metal forming and metal working industry as well as general purpose lubricants. By operation of this process, waste treatment and waste disposal problems associated with the phosphate sludge are essentially eliminated. Various dry-soap lubricant formulations, warm forming lubricant formulations, non-reactive lubricant formulations, and metal precoat formulations containing the recovered or recycled phosphate sludge additive are described. The lime normally contained in many of these lubricant formulations can be significantly reduced or essentially eliminated by using the recovered phosphate sludge additive of this invention, thereby resulting in improved lubricant formulations. The recovered phosphate sludge is especially useful as an Extreme Pressure Additive.
